Evening STandard states that ministers today launched a £12 million scheme to combat the spread of right-wing extremism. Under the plans, each of more than 100 areas across the country judged to be vulnerable to extremism will be given extra help to boost job opportunities, education and living conditions. In London the initiative will be implemented initially in parts of Barking and Dagenham, Bexley and Bromley.

Is this the right thing to do?

Sounds to me like they are scared of legitimate political parties pushing then out, and using tax payers money to help keep them in power - again!

London mate. If you suggest that this board is under attack by right wing extremist may be we could get some cash. I am willing to go halves

Surely preventing any form of extremeism is a good use of money? Left or Right wing, Muslim or Christian.

I loved the BNP supporter interviewed on the tellybox last night.

Quote: "White people are now the minority round here. We're getting overrun by Poles and Ukranians"

Cock.

Sure! But that surely does not include main-stream political parties like the BNP? If so, surely the mosques should all be closed down for the crap they spout?

No-one mentioned the BNP. And if we are shutting mosques down for the supposed "crap they spout" as you so eloquently put it, perhaps we should shut down the churches as well and be sone with it?

So what they are actually doing is just pumping money into areas that have been deprived in recent years under the pretence of combatting the spread of right wing extremism?

Sounds like it doesn't it? Can't see the problem personally.

They'd be better off spending the money telling people that the premise on which the parties like the BNP base their 'policies' are based on half-truths, innuendo and falsehoods.

The BNP are relying on concept of spoon-feeding gullible people to make their points to try and win peple over, and the truly ignorant are swallowing it. And it's that ignorance and gullibility that needs to be addressed, not headline-grabbing 'projects'.

lETS be HONEST LADS,

what do you think this cash will be spent on.

We are talking 100 areas, divide the cash evenly thats £120,000 per area,

That pays for 4 officers at £ 20k, so not experience professionals, (NI etc on top of that comes up to 120k).

Or it gets you two new Council homes. Or it refurbishes 6 to 8 homes.

It will provide perhaps 3/4 new play areas.

But it doesn't buy you much, unless of course we start talking information, leaflets, publicity. Are we crossing a fine line here.

It will be interesting seeing the 100 areas, will they be 100 Labour areas going over to the BNP?

They have already tried that. I can't remember the exact amount that Searchlies and the laughable UAF spent during the Euro Elections but it was quite a bit. It didn't work.

As for policies based on half truths lies and falsehoods try the Labour party

Of course it will. Labour have spent years making the rich, richer abandoning their traditional working class vote. Treating them with contempt. Now they are shocked that the vote is going to go against them. Think they will spend even more trying to swindle the vote.

They can do worse than spending it to allow the BNP to publicise their repatriation policy. Just let them talk and then have someone following it pointing out the flaws, it'll be like shooting fish in a barrel.
