Brighton - In your face
Two suspensions, plus two injuries. That's four players out from the spine of the team.

Put Brezovan, Greer, Navarro and Sparrow into the team, that means Ankergren, El Abd, Smith and Dicker drop to the bench.

Suddenly, our bench isn't so weak.

You need to remember our first choice spine is out, so our team is the second choice spine, which is still pretty damn good, the bench then becomes our third choice spine.

For a third choice spine, there is nothing wrong with that bench.

Yes but come on, it's only 4 out of the 5 of Gus' intended spine missing. We should be beating teams like Sheff Weds away.

How can you say 'give up on the season'... They'll be a spicy relegation fight if we don't sign a goalscorer in the next few days...

...unless Bloom gets his chequebook out and spends money. Proper money, not just shitty trialists from Luxembourg who have a good first touch.

No wideman.
No no pace.
No much talked about "20 goal a season striker"

But most alarmingly of all today, we showed NO strength in depth.

Our subs bench:

Cook, Baz, Battipiedi, Hart, Holroyd, Walker.

What a shambles of a bench. We never looked like scoring, and had NOTHING on the bench to change things. Two suspensions and we're down to the bare bones. We ordinarily would have played 5 in midfield with Glenn up top away from home against a better team like Sheffield, but we were handicapped into playing Barnes as the only other midfielders are unproven argies plucked from a Ryman's league equivalent who can't even speak the language.

No signings, no hope of play-offs. Simple as that. If we haven't got the signings in in ten days time, then to be honest, there's every chance we'll be battling against relegation rather than promotion.

Pretty football is great, and we're clearly a much more entertaining side now, but it's pointless if we haven't got the squad to back it up.

I think we all know that we are at least 3 good players short - maybe more. The essential one is a top quality finisher.

Is that right?
Yeah, course it is, I made the trip up to Sheffield yesterday hoping we'd lose, didn't I? Spending my time and money supporting Sheffield Wednesday? Yeah, that's the one.

Tony Bloom is great. He's funded a brilliant stadium. But he's also said he wants promotion. If he's going to get that, he has to spend, and Gus needs to find the players - resorting to random trialists at this late stage seems a little desperate to be honest.

If we don't sign the players then we're not going up - it's as simple as that. So it's all down to them to stop this season being nothing but an attractive to watch anti-climax.

Yes the season's all over. so as we're clearly going to get be involved in a relegation dogfight why don't you swan off and support another team. I'm sure another team would benefit from your years of listening to leonard cohen and expertise on football managergames.

Your work here is done. BYEEEEEE now move along, nothing to see here.

The OP is a great example of todays 'I want it now' culture.

Learn some f***ing patience. 3 league games gone, the transfer window is still open and you think the season is over?

Still 10 days left, and Gus knows what he's doing. As has been explained before, he is not rushing into the buys, and is going for the best selection who fit in with the current style of play.

But he's had all summer to bring in a striker and a left winger, wehat makes you think he's going to get one in the next few days?

It doesent matter how long he has had. Its about making the right decision and paying the right price. what is wrong with you. if we just rushed in at the start of the transfer window we wouldent have got anyone decent anyway. You can only get what is available and its often at the end of the window that the big players come in. Some of seriously need to get some patience. Gus is and will continue to do a better job than you ever could so leave it like that and just get behind the guy and give him your support.

I think most people agreed a striker was key, Barnes is never going to get 20 a season.

Just an idea but where is Sam Vokes?

To be fair you were missing a couple of key players against arguably the strongest squad in the division. We had 3 nailed on starters out (Morrison, Jermaine Johnson, Miller) but it's probably still fair to say we looked comfortable.

You had some good spells though and had me worried, we're usually shocking at holding on to leads. For me it seemed like you're missing one guy who's going to put the ball in the net on a consistent basis, and gun to my head I'd say you'll finish between 6th and 10th unless you make a few more signings before the window closes.

Good luck for the rest of the season though.

The problem is that if you lack behind in most cases, not all granted, it is very difficult to make up those lost points. I have lost count of the number of times we have lost stupid game in August/Sepetember and come the end of the season it had been that had we won that game we would have been promoted/ not relegated /or got in the play offs.

I am sure someone posted these same sentiments a few seasons back when we won the play-offs.

Irvine has started the season well. I was astonished when he failed to keep you up in May. I think a lot of PNE fans will be regreting his sacking. My two for automatic this season were Huddersfield and Saints but you're right in there and it's going to be an exciting ride.
I still think B&HA will finish in the top six and they'll be a threat to anyone in the play-offs.
