Meet-up to watch the Plymouth game in Edinburgh?

Apologies if I'm duplicating anything that BHAlba folk have already done, but is anyone up for watching the Plymouth game somewhere in Edinburgh? I've vaguely discussed this with Jambo Seagull, although I don't know for certain if he's able to make it.

Anyone else fancy it? And any thoughts on which pub to watch it in? I've tended to watch Albion games in the Queens Arms on Frederick Street, but I'm open to any suggestions.

My dad's coming up from Newcastle for the weekend, so that's at least two guaranteed Seagulls watching the game. Any more?

The Marksman on Duke Street.

Quite possibly Leith's most depressing pub. If not the UK's.

We'll have to find a pub somewhere for all the Albion lads to have a drink and watch the results come in.

You should find plenty on Lothian Road, although I have to be honest and say I haven't been to any of them.

I'll check with my workmate Jamie when he gets back from lunch and find out which one he was thrown out of on his stag night, apparently that one seemed very good for the three minutes they were in there...

This is my specialised subject! The daddy of them all is the Fantasy bar in Home Street in Tollcross is the daddy of them all. It was top quality when it opened. There's also Bottoms Up on Lothian Road and a new one on Shandwick Place which is at the west end of Princes Street. Not been there but meant to be quite something. All these are genuine Lap dancing bars. Fantasy costs (or used to a few years ago) £10 to get in (inc one free dance) and a £5 a dance after that. Helpfully it's got a cash machine on the street outside. The first time I went there I went in with £40 and had to go back to the machine halfway through the night! Sad bastard.

If you just want strip bars with some fairly awful looking women then head for the Pubic Triangle at the west end of the Grassmarket. THere's is the Western Bar, the Burke and Hare and another pub which used to be callled Bridies. All are just pubs were you just sit down have a drink and watch a bird taking her clothes off in front of you. Triffic.

A word of warning. Lothian Road is where all the casuals and squaddies hang out on a Friday/Saturday night. Edinburgh's equivalent of West Street.

For general pubs, Grassmarket, Cowgate and George Street are the best areas. Rose Street is the pub parallel with Princes St which is famous for its' pubs but I can't think of one decent boozer on it apart from Yo Below which is below Yo Sushi and is a Japanese karaoke bar. It's got taps with beer at the tables and you pay at the end of the night. Very dangerous in a stag party I guess! You will probably have to be careful about turning up to some pubs mob-handed although it will be quiet this time of year. Enjoy yourself.

Crabtree - apparently the Western is a cheap and dirty lap-dancing establishment, whereas the Burke & Hare (the one he got chucked out of) is a bit pricier but maybe better. There's also Hooters and maybe a couple of others, generally in the area around West Port (near Grassmarket/Lothian Road), commonly known as the Pubic Triangle.

Oh, and I think I've passed a new place on Shandwick Place (just past the west end of Princes Street) called the Fantasy Palace or something like that - although perhaps I misunderstood and it's actually a Chinese restaurant...

(This is all courtesy of my work colleagues, by the way - I'm far too sweet and innocent to have been to any such places myself. )

Sorry Jambo - if I'd realised the world authority was online I wouldn't have bothered asking my colleagues... :lolol:

Hmmmm...not sure how well that ties in with your opening gambit of "This is my specialised subject"...

Do you know yet if you'll make it into town for the game then?

A large beer and minge fest here we come!!!!!

Good to see that Edinburgh still attracts the right kind of tourist, not just those neanderthals who trail round the museums and art galleries.
