The emergency services dealt with the incident immaculately -- not least by caring for the person's wheelchair-bound friend who was (naturally) deeply distressed. One police officer in particular knelt down by the person's friend, held his hand, and comforted him. It was deeply moving, and a huge credit to that officer and his colleagues.

I think this is one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever read on NSC.

Agreed.

I hope his family can take some solace in the fact that he would have enjoyed seeing his team dish out such a performance.

He had two members of his family with him when it happened.

A 92-year-old Albion fan died waiting for a train with his family around him.

The fan had just watched the Seagulls thrash Fulham 5-0 and despite efforts to revive the man after he had fallen at Falmer Railway Station, he sadly passed away.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “BTP officers at Falmer Railway Station for the Brighton and Hove Albion versus Fulham football match played on Friday night were alerted to a male who had fallen whilst stood on the platform waiting for a train after the game had finished.

“Attempts were made to try and revive the male by two off duty doctors at the scene.

“However, sadly, the 92-year-old male was pronounced deceased a short while after.

“Two members of the male’s family were with him at the time the incident occurred and we pass our sincere condolences to them.

“The incident is being treated as non-suspicious by BTP and the file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Members from the Albion's medical staff rushed over from the American Express Community Stadium to aid the effort, and a club spokesman on the night said: “We're sorry to report a fan suffered a fatal cardiac arrest at Falmer Station after tonight's game. Our thoughts are with his family.”

Albion had earlier asked fans, also via Twitter, planning to catch trains in the direction of Lewes to be patient due to a “major medical incident” taking place at the station.

Seagulls goalkeeper David Stockdale and midfielder Dale Stephens were among the first to offer their sympathies.

Stockdale tweeted: “Sorry to hear of one of our fans passing after the game tonight.. Thoughts from the whole club with their family.”

Stephens added: “So sad to hear the news, one of our fans didn't return home after the game tonight. Really does put things into perspective.”

Since Friday night, fans have been paying their respects by laying flowers at Falmer station.

Supporters on North Stand Chat, the club's fans forum, have suggested a minute's applause during the club's clash against Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday night on the fifth minute - the number of goals the fan had witnessed his team score against Fulham minutes before he passed away.

A club official told The Argus yesterday it was working on a tribute ahead of the Championship match.

Sad news. Hopefully some comfort can be taken from the fact he died doing something he enjoyed and with his family.
