The only shambles is the SNP and Alex Salmond. It looks like they are going to blow it.

Big immediate Q is whether this makes a Labour majority, or at least a hung parliament with Labour as the biggest party, more likely in the next general election, if Salmond has lost the gamble and SNP suffers a polling backlash next time up.
All the issues that Pavillionaire raises are long-term fundamentals for the UK - but SNP losses to Labour (and even the Libs) are more likely given yesterday are they not?

I don't think the Jocks will have another independence referendum for at least 30 years. The nationalists will have to wait until virtually all the current OAPs who voted NO have snuffed it to have a chance of getting a majority YES vote.

I don't think the Jocks will have another independence referendum for at least 30 years. The nationalists will have to wait until virtually all the current OAPs who voted NO have snuffed it to have a chance of getting a majority YES vote.

If The Tories shaft them in any post-referendum settlement, the SNP would be able to make a good case to re-visit independence issue, long before 2044.

Could well depend on what happens in post referendum settlement Kev.
If Cameron reneges on promises and shafts the SNP, Salmond could well win another majority in 2016 on a “told you so” ticket.

Maggie persuaded the Scots in 79 that they didn't really want devolution as they would be better off without it and then her and Major screwed them senseless over the next 18 years.
