McGhee the best coach Albion have had?

Perhaps since Peter Tayor (of Clough and Taylor)? Having seen what he's done with a squad of free transfers and home grown lads, I think he's one of the best ever. Better than MA. Coppell. Peter Taylor the 2nd.

He has made some mistakes but I think his courage in making crucial decisions is second to none - eg making a striker out of an average defender, inspired substitutions, etc....

Also the most articulate manager we've had?:clap2:

I think McGhee is a great manager but whether he's the best I really don't know. I agree, however, that he is willing to give the young players a chance and he is getting results. Long may it continue.:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

And when he does make mistakes, he readily owns up to them. He'll do for me.:drink:

Good point, well made, Doug.

Probably the most articulate, I would agree. Not sure about his tactical nouse - strange subs in previous games. And I think he has got lucky with Virgo - he just wanted a big man for Leon to feed off.

Time will tell about McGhee - I am in the pro camp at the moment but am not about to start going over the top. And the players breaking through have been good prospects before he came - kudos to Wilkins and Hinsh senior, surely.

At least he has had the courage to put them in when needed and leave them in when they have done well. I really hope that we can get a fair few points on the board early on so that we can blood all of these players properly. If we slip into the bottom three then pressure will mount (from a lot of people on here, especially) to bring in experienced players on loan which will deprive our youngsters of much needed experience which would be a crying shame. If we can survive this season, I believe that it will be a lot easier next season if all 5 or 6 hot prospects have 20-30 Championship games under their belts. Some may move on but how many players have we had in recent years that have done that to advance themselves? Zamora is the only one that springs to mind.

Steady on, lets not all start sucking each others dicks just yet.

He's not the best coach we've ever had after 3 results, and he's not the worst coach we've ever had after 3 defeats. He's doing a fine job with the resources he has, but lets go easy on the superlatives. We're doing well so far, lets avoid the tabloid habit of extremes with no middle ground.

If we beat Wolves and QPR though, then yes, McGhee can then be officially crowned The Best Coach In The World.

He's dont well so far. moving us in the right direction. Must admit i do think he's a great man though, very honest and admits when he makes mistakes. I think he may be here for a good while yet. Mark McGhee's Blue N white army!

He appreciates the fans too. I like him.

I think there is a great deal of humility about McGhee. As others have mentioned, he's prepared to admit when he's made a mistake, and he is always brutally honest in his post-match interviews.

Considering the circumstances at the club, we are exceptionally lucky to have a manager of this calibre in charge at the Albion.

MM walks on the pitch with the players at the end of the game (away ones anyway) and applauds the fans as much as he players.

I havn't had as much respect for a manager since MA and before him Mullery.

Top bloke and I think his contract is as important as Cullip or Knight.

I think he's been really surprised by the passion of our support for the club- i think even he feels that we play a huge part in motivating the team esp at away games, and thats why he always comes on to applaud us. we were awesome today. so proud to be albion. voice is very sore though!

I agree Peter Taylor (the 1970s one!) was a class apart, but McGhee seems to be working a few miracles

The best thing so far about MM is honesty, something very few managers ever admit to.

Including 'finding' Virgo who was completely out in the cold whilst Coppell was here.

Was he lucky or doing his job exceptionally well? Let's remember that he sees the players every day in training and there was clearly something about Virgo's ability that caught his eye.

Anyway, I'd rather have a lucky manager who is a bit naive rather than an amazing coach who is unlucky. Lucky got us to Cardiff last season:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

There's no doubt that he saw something in training - his ability to win the ball in the air and hold the ball up well. If he had seen his goalscoring abilities he wouldn't keep saying he is a centre back playing out of position - he would be trying to mould him into a permenant striker.
