McGhee the best coach Albion have had?

I think that McGhee's decision to make Virgo a striker was influenced by the goal he scored against Swindon. This wasn't a goal from a set piece in a crowded penalty box (the normal situation where a defender would score) but he ran in and anticipated the back flick and then directed the header into the right place. This showed good awareness of the play around him and an ability to finish. Both qualities needed in a good striker.

I don't think we should be too concerned about McGhee's contract. He wants to stay, he loves it here he's made that clear, and I reckon he will be the manager when we walk out at Falmer for the first time.

It's interesting that he doesn't seem to be getting too flustered about the contract situations of one or two of the players either. He knows that restrictions with money and is getting on with it. Peter Taylor (of the 2000's variety) are you watching? This is how you go about making the most of what you have got, not just thinking you can have an open cheque-book everywhere you go.

McGhee has done superbly with what hes been given to play with. Considering our financial position, if he keeps us up this season it will be the greatest achievement this club has managed over the last 5 years because gaining promotions, however hard, are easier when you are outclassing a lot of the teams, which was certainly the case at times these last few years, but managing over 50 points against the opposition we have to contend with this year, which is stronger than last time we were in this division, and with perhaps a worse team, no blackwell, zamora, brooker etc will definately rank up there with the best. We should be singing "Mark McGhees Blue and white army" until we are sore cos he thoroughly deserves it. Best manager since Micky, cos they both had the guts to take a gamble. :clap2:

Can't argue with that.

I most admire his ability to get the best out of our players, and his honesty...

I loved the way he said we needed to create more chances after our good performance at Watford yesterday... he is always driving the team on to better things...

Careful everyone. If we keep bigging him up like this some bastard from Crystal Palace will come knocking to take him to Selhurst after Dowie jumps (sinking) ship to Blackburn.

Need I remind you of the number of managers that have deserted us and buggered off to "bigger" clubs?

October isn't far away and we haven't managed to get through that month for the last three years without losing a manager.

:(
