McGhee outdone tactically two games in a row

Against Ipswich Royle sent on Magilton as a reaction to our superb start and he steadied the ship and completely changed the way Ipswich were playing. As a result of this Ipswich will feel unlucky that they onloy got a point after Parkin hit the bar and missed a sitter.

Last night Hoddle realised the threat we have out wide and played wing backs, seriously cutting down on the width available to us. As a result Hammond and Nicolas often had no out ball and were getting court in possession a lot.

McGhee's reaction? Drop Knight back leaving us with one up front at HOME against a team that has not won in SIX games. This, coupled with Kazim-Richards seeming laziness, meant that the Wolves back three had the easiest game of their season and had time on the ball to pick out long balls and pin us in for most of the game.

And why oh why did McGhee no throw Turienzo on?

Exactly my thoughts!

The Argie can't have done a worse job at holding the ball up. CKR won nothing in the air all night. His loss of possession cost us the goal.

I have huge respect for McGhee but he got it wrong last night.

Not for the first time -0 he seems to a reactive manager rather than proactive.

Leeds is another example two goals up - you should change sp,ething to steady the ship - he did it to late which cost brighton another 2 points

Got it wrong last night, got it right at Palace. We also had a spell 1st half last night which was probably some of the best football I have ever seen by a Brighton side.

Why dont you start a poll about Mcghee and wether he should get the sack again Richie?

You've said it yourself, we were overrun in midfield. So McGhee drop's a striker back into midfield? A tactical blunder? Not in my book.

With no quality midfielder on the bench and CKR being better suited to holding up the ball than Turi, what else could be done?

I suppose push to a 3-5-2, but you'd have to sacrifice Frutos or Carole who were playing well.

IMO, Leon back into midfield would be the sensible tactical option. Last night, it didn't work, but the manager made the right move.

It's hardly "outdone" if we drew is it?

If we draw all our remaining games, we will be in trouble.

Richie has a good point.

But if we are being so overrun in midfield, why was Dodd not brought into the midfield, as he has play there a lot for Southampton over the years. He would seem to be the sort of player that can put his foot on the ball and calm things down.

In the last 20 minutes Richards could not run, he was knackered and yet he was left on.

Teams playing away will take a point. A team in trouble at the bottom needs to win at home.

I would say that losing 4 points out of 6 at home in games we could have won is being outdone.

Just so Mcghee could prove a point to Knight - petty

"Court in possession" ???

"No throw Turienzo on" ??

Is this the standard of journalism that readers of the Horsham BUGLE have to put up with you when you report on the latest flower show Richie?

arent you the bloke as was moaning about playing defenders out of position. but your right about ckr who cant seem to hold the ball up to save his life which was mostly why we were overun in midfeild last night

But Dodd was always been something of a utility player. He played an awful lot of games for Southampton as a holding midfielder whilst Le Tissier used to do his thing and it was crying out for someone to come on and bolster the midfield last night.

Listening to the game on bbc west midlands, there commentaters were saying Mcghee had tactically outdone hoddle. So whos right then I wonder? However they did go on to sarcastically make a comment on how Mcghee made some strange tactical choices when in charge at Wolves.
