Religion and I mean ALL religion is bad. It has created never ending wars and suffering. The best thing that could happen for this planet and the only thing to ultimately save it is if we found proof of extraterrestial life and all religion and their beliefs and teachings would be shot to pieces.

I'm going to regret asking this, but how would it be shot to pieces?

Hey goldstone. I can kind of see why you may have been a bit offended. Some of us consider our beliefs to be quite precious (wether you are Muslim, Christian, Agnostic e.t.c) and if anyone treads near it we go into super OTT defensive mode. I know I do and I'm not religious. But some of your comments are really taking it too far.

Chill the f*** out.......

Just ask yourself, regardless of the religious comment, if this guy wanted to offend people or if he is just being NICE !

I'm an atheist but frankly I don't accept that religion is the root of all evil. The vast majority of believers of any faith are honest and decent people who just have other views than people like me. They do me no harm (unlike plenty of atheists can and have done) so why should I knock their beliefs ?

Religion gives a lot of people hope and something to trust in, it doesn't work for me but I'm not everybody. As long as it's not affecting me then I have no problem with it.

If religion was shot to pieces, imagine the number of footballers who'd have to come up with new goal celebrations

Ok, first off I'm an Atheist but I have no problem with other people doing what they want if it gives them comfort and happiness.

Cut him a little slack? He's just lost his mother so he's going to be under a lot of stress and will probably turn to the thing that gives him the most comfort... his religion. For some people that may be chocolate, or ice cream, or beer. If you were a non drinker would you be offended if his email said 'I'm off to have a pint for all of you'?

Because the Genesis would be disproved. Religion is based on a God and that God creating Man in his image. It also believes Man to be unique and alone in God's universe so ET turning up would destroy everything that a religion is based on. I know many people on this planet wish for and believe the proof of ET will be the best thing that could ever happen to Earth and Mankind in general and I am also of that belief.

As others have said about themselves, I too have religious friends, whilst I myself do not follow a faith. One of my friends even has a habit of ending every email or text with the phrase "God bless" - not something I subscribe to, but really not worth getting worked up about either. Just live and let live and all that.

Hey US...

I bet you have loads of E.T figurines and posters dotted around your house. Possibly maybe even a shrine with loads of E.T paraphernalia in your room?

I reckon you own a few faded 80's E.T. T-shirts that you wear under your Campri ski jacket.....:lolol::lolol:

Science disproved religion decades ago. People hang on to it thinking " there must be more to it than this ", unfortunately there isn't.

That's a fair answer, but as one of the believers in a 'Sky Daddy' I disagree that the appearance of ET would end ALL religious teachings and beliefs. I too think that Genesis is a load of rubbish (even Catholics accept stuff like Big Bang) and the appearance of aliens certainly wouldn't affect anything I believe in. Plus I bet you that someone would start worshipping ET, so you'd have a new religion to deal with!

Anyway, that'll be my last post on the matter. I don't usually join in these debates as no one convinces anyone else and it usually just ends up getting abusive.

God bless!

Atheists have to be the most arrogant breed going. Considering their reasoning behind the divine brilliance of life, the universe and everything is "it just happened by chance" I always find it surprising when they have the audacity to attack religions.

No it didn't happen by chance - it was done by a big magic man that lives in the clouds

What about Scientology?

Religion is not the problem. Mans interpretation of it is.

well, we wish people a good day, ask how they are as a greeting/politeness when not really giving a crap... its not really worth worrying about their delusion that they and their kin need to be forgiven and saved, much less that ask for others to be forgiven.
