They have a 1901 club at Tottenham too?
No obviously not - post edited.

My memory is fcuked today because of some shlt going on.

I was thinking of when he stepped forward seemingly to take Hinsh’s pen at Liverpool and I had made the comments then that I didn’t think he should take it - as it happened Hinsh took it.

But my points about the Spud pen still stands based on what I saw on TV - it may have looked different to someone at the match.

I thought at the time he shouldn’t have stepped up, if the truth be told and said so to my mate. As it was, it was a good spot kick but at knee/thigh height and Vicario read him and went in the right direction at the right height - I wouldn’t call it ‘stonking’ and think he was lucky to be honest.

I certainly don’t see him as a spot kick replacement for Pedro, at least not based on that one penalty.

Now Gomez’s strike in injury time from 25 yards out was stonking!

EDIT - Getting my matches mixed up - what a hash - I was watching the Spurs match on TV
I think it shows that either FH and or team mates trust him to take one. That is a good thing after the stop/start season he’s had, no?

What penalty was this?

The only senior penalty Jack has taken was against Forest in the FA Cup shootout. Matt O’Riley wasn’t even on the pitch for that game as he was an unused sub.

I'd watch it again. He hit the side netting.

Watching the replay from behind the goal shows just how well hit the penalty was. The Spurs keeper was no where near it really.

He used be Celtics pen taker that suggests he knows what he’s doing

What’s his record?

I’m not sure he was ever Celtics regular penalty taker. The stats don’t back up that idea.

According to Transfermarkt he’s scored 5 and missed 2 penalties in his career, shootouts aren’t recorded.

Although 3 of those penalties were when he was a youth team player at Fulham (scored 2 missed 1).

So his record at Celtic was also scored 2 missed 1. He never took any when he was at MK Dons.

Apparently he knocked on Rodger’s door and demanded he wanted to be that seasons pen taker so I guess he’s still learning 😬

The Fatherland
Dunk, Wellbz and O'Reilly all seem to be decent penalty takers. It's not an area I'm too worried about in the post-Pedro world.

When was it we stopped getting excited when awarded a pen was it under Poyet or Hypia? I could barely watch we were so bad at them.

The final season at Withdean we were awarded 16 penalties, we scored 8 and missed 8. In the league we scored 7 and missed 6, must be one of the worse records of a side promoted as champions of their division.

O’Riley had an interesting technique for the pen at Spurs. He basically looked directly at the corner of the goal to the keeper’s left, then proceeded to hit it exactly where he’d been looking. And the keeper guessed correctly - luckily the placement was very good. But not much margin for error!
