I think your chain of events falls at the second hurdle, as Di Matteo I think will stay at Chelsea.
IF he wins champions league they cant sack hi.
If he doesnt win, they wont be able to bring in a top coach/players as they wont be in champions league so more likely to keep job.

Gus has no way near enough experience to manage a top 4 side, he may have links with Spurs but on his managerial record, he's won a third division title and finished 10th in the second division, please tell me how that's anywhere near good enough for a top 4 Premier League side?!

Once Gus has got us to the Premier League and keeps us up, then he's gonna be a reasonable shout for a job like that.

No doubt Wigan be poo poo on here but I think Gus would take it. Loyal chairman so gets time. Anything more than survival is success. Decent stadium etc and inherits a team with a similar playing style to his.
