Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
He was a legend at the club and that wont change, to be honest AFC have been piss poor for 5 or 6 years so it was going to take a miracle for that to turn around, but he had to go. The fans were rapidly loosing patience, and the usual McGhee party trick of blaming the players, some of whom took a massive wage cut in the summer and have been pretty loyal was starting to get out of hand, when he was playing them in bizarre positions week after week. His inability to attract players was also a major factor. Its a pretty sad state of affairs to be honest. The town of Aberdeen is still an extremely wealthy place, but crowds have gone from 11,000 to 5,500 under McGhee and something had to give.

McGhee seems to revert to type everything something goes wrong, he was sacked, and you can be relatively sure that the £400k outstanding on his contract was the major reason for sitting tight.

No they haven't. Their final league positions in the 5 years prior to McGhee are:

08-09: 4th
07-08: 4th
06-07: 3rd
05-06: 6th
04-05: 4th

First season under McGhee they finished 9th and got thumped in Europe by some Czech team no-one's heard of, so far this season they're only off the bottom on goal difference.

Unfortunately those positions hide a deep rooted decline, both of the last Calderwood seasons we scraped into the top 6 and finished strongly, but the football was insipid and the investment has been abysmal. McGhee isnt renowned as a miracle worker so it was very unlikely he was going to be able to do much.

Well he worked miracles down here for a season or two. Anyway it seems to me that McGhee's weakness as a manager is an inablity to turn things round once things star tto go wrong
