Manager of the Tournament?

Seeing as most of the players were poor, who was that manager of the tournamnet?

I would say either Lippi or Klinsman because they got an average bunch of players to perform as solid teams.

And the worst? - definately Sven!

Lippi.

Timed it just right. He built his team around a very defensive format and it worked perfectly. Plus some of his quotes are top drawer.

Klinsmann should be up there but i'd expect most teams to do well as hosts and play above there abilities though it's not as if the Germans ahev a rubbish side now is it.

You gotta say Lippi, it's about knowing what works best for the team you have available to you, not forming a team around injured players who shouldnt even be in the squad

I think Germany is a case in point where mediocre players have been gelled into a good team - the sum being more than the constituent parts. No-one in the German side really stood out, because no-one was THAT good. It was more of a case that they all played well.

It was the reverse of England, a case where some pretty decent players played within their abilities and well within their egos. The body language of the England side looked uninspiring. I wouldn't be surprised if there were problems within the England camp - but even if that were true, I don't suppose we'll ever hear it. At least, not until the first of the autobiograhpies comes out.

To that end, bearing in mind the lack of excuses he could fall back one, Sven has to be the worst by a country mile. A dreadful dose of management, and a shocking indictment of the bufoons at the FA.

Lippi for adventure, something I would never have believed with an Italian side upto now.

Finished the game with 4 forwards a few times.

I'd say it's between Lippi and Klinsmann.
Hiddink could'nt be contender for me as he was far too defensive and unadventorous against ten men Italy.

I don't think Sven could be considered the worst. Everyone said beforehand Brazil would win, they had easily the best squad so i'd say Perriera must be in it. Also Pekerman's substitions lost them the Germany game when they were in complete control, and evryone fancied them at that point.
I'd also say Scolari's tactics were worse than Svens

That sounds right to me. Perriera was by far the worst, he had some of the best players in the world and yet they even looked like being world-beaters.

Best: Lippi or Klinsmann.

Worst: SGE

Honourable mention in the "best" category to Marco Van Basten, who is showing every sign that he could develop into every bit as a good a manager as he was a player. He did well with a fairly inexperienced Dutch side who will definitely be ones to watch in Euro 2008 and South Africa 2010, hopefully (for them) with MVB still in charge.

I think Klinsmann, just ahead of Lippi.

Half of Klinsmann's first team is 23 or younger and there was a lot of pressure on the team as hosts to perform well. They responded by finishing tournament top scorers and in Klose they had the Golden Boot winner.

In every match they played positively from start to finish, possibly the only country to do so. Klinsmann has single-handedly put German football back on the map - they now look a top side again.

As for Lippi he did a good job. I think Italy of this year were pretty much the Italy we always see, but unlike previous years no team was good enough to beat them.

I think Arena (sp) the USA manager has to be included as a contender for the worst. Talk about taking a side backwards, quarter finalists last time to a joke side this time.
Agreed - a good squad on paper who I thought would do well again before it started, but they were god-awful.

Juergen Klinsmann was the best, by a country mile. People have forgotten just how low everyone's pre-tournament expectations were of Germany, whether they'd even make it out of the group etc. Just hope he doesn't fancy the US gig.

Klinsmann best. Ballack and Lehman apart the rest of the team would struggle to make it into most european teams!

Erikson worst by far. The best crop of english players in almost half a century. What have we achieved? 3 quater finals. great. £25 well spent.

£ 25 would have been too much for that useless Swedish Binsey Slaphead.
