Lynch is only 18 why can't he play both games.

Exactly... dropping Lynch now can only dent his confidence, and leave the 1st team with a weaker lb... ridiculous decision, IMHO...

It is still 90 minutes of football. Might not be as intense, but coupled with sitting on coach to Blackburn, it is hardly a rest.

And then he gets the weekend to recharge his batteries or does that not count as a rest ?

Uncle Buck logic I guess.

The two keepers need to be challenging each other for the right to wear the shirt, if the 2nd choice keeper gets despondent then the 1st choice keeper unconsciously lets his performance level drop below 100% believing there is no competition for the jersey.

Lynch playing in the youth cup gives us a stronger side to overcome Blackburn, for Saturdays 6 pointer MM needs an experienced left back so the place either goes to Kerry or Reidy. Both of them dont have any pace but Joel doesn't warrant keeping his place in such a vital match. To me it's the lesser of two evils and MM has to play devils advocate

Reid is undoubtedly a better player than Mayo... but not a lb... it WILL weaken the 1st team for Sat... stupid fcuking decision, IMHO...

If they are so concerned about his tiredness why not fly him back from Lancashire rather than have a long coach ride. This could be done either this evening or stay overnight and first thing in the morning. How do the teams competing in Europe do it Rooney is only 18.

I don't know the costs but what would a charter plane from Lancashire to either Shoreham or Gatwick cost. I have no idea.

I know 5 years ago Legal & Genral hired a Ryanair plane to take them to and from Spain with no food and it cost less than £8 per head.

Yes, true... but you can't drop a keeper because he allegedly makes 1 mistake... I would be pi$$ed off if I was the FDM too...

But then surely Saturday to Saturday without a game is better than Saturday to Wednesday then game?

If the level of football was the same I would agree with you, but we agreed that is not the case didn't we ?

As I said earlier, I believe McGhee felt his form dipped at the weekend due to tiredness ( mental & physical, but probably more mental ) which is understandable given his age. This youth game has given McGhee the perfect opportunity to move him out of the firing line without specifically pointing the finger or making a big issue about it ( in the press !! ).

And yet the result is the same as usual, another stick to beat the manager with.

If we had a good experienced lb to replace him, then I would definitely agree with you and MM's decision... unfortunately (and despite the promise of a lb replacement for Dan H - yet another promised signing that didn't materialise), we don't...

ain't the youth team playing on saturday morning? if so he'll probably play in that!. so travel up to blackburn play 90 mins possibly longer (do they have extra time) then after getting back in the early hours of thursday morning playing at the weeekend hardly a rest

I think BW summed it up, if there was someone else to come in then fine, but there is not. Reid looks uncomfortable at left back and Mayo has been inconsistent at best this season.

Again, this just shows the randomness of McGhee and amazes me that people think he is doing the right thing.

So even though he thinks the player is dipping in form he should leave him in there until he really fu*ks up. That'll do the boy the world of good.

You may well disagree with that decision but to describe it as random thinking uncovers your ( usual ) true motive in this type of exchange.

Don't like him, never have, never will.

Ultimately due to the fact that we sold one left back and let 2 others go who could play there in the summer, is there currently a better option than Lynch? Not sure the senior options are and as Rents is not deemed ready yet, we should be sticking with Lynch, unless we are going to sign somebody, but as nobody seems to want to play for McGhee that is unlikely.

Please don't sink to the depths of conjecture and tittle tattle, you're better than that.

I would agree that the alternatives are not bountiful but that is still not a case to continue with a tiring young player.

for Saturday's game and playing for the youth team at Blackburn tonight.

Kerry or Reid will get the LB position against Leicester.

No talk of a striker on his way though :

For once, it appears to be a sensible move on Magoo's part. Why title the post "Lynch dropped" as though the lad is being punished for a poor performance? ???

Just how it appeared to me. I have no axe to grind with him and am delighted with how he has come on in the last month.

"Dropped" to me is not some sort of knock. Remember I'm not the one looking to slag off the manager, team club. There are plenty of others on this thread who love doing that. In fact I thought you were one of them :p

Lynch will be back - he's too good a player not to be - and I think we'll see a lot more of Gatting too. But just now MM obviously thinks that the risks of having him not mentally ready for a big game on Sat outweigh the risks of playing Mayo or Reid.

I don't think this is in any way a bad decision and I expect that either player will give a big performance against Leicester - who will be equally nervous about this match.

As for Lynch, he'll strengthen the youth team and, with Gatting, give us a real chance of progressing.
