More to the point was the inability of El Abd or Lynch to get forward against Cov. At least Reid can cross, get forward and help the winger. Not Lynch's fault as he is a CB but no use when we are on the attack.

I think that a full backs job first and foremost is to be able to defend properly anything else is a bonus.

How many people on here blamed Lynch for the 2nd goal at Reading, the 2nd goal at Southampton, the 2nd goal at Sheff Utd and the 2nd goal at Coventry?
Well there's your answer - substitute him after the 1st goal goes in! He'll play a blinder every match then! :lolol:

He hasn't been dropped at all !

He is being rested from the first team on account of him being a young emerging player and to avoid burning him out.

There is a big difference between the two.

He plays 5 in a row, then we get a 6-pointer v Leicester and he's not in the team. That's being dropped in my book!

That's football, he's got to get used to it.

McGhee did allude to that by describing his performance on Saturday as his least effective but given the 5 games in a row probably feels he is tired and needs a rest from the first team.

Or do all Eighteen year olds's have to play until they drop now. :nono:

I think we should be able to attack and defend as a team and that is the problem. El Abd and Lynch are next to useless at pushing up and crossing and Carole and Fruity defend as well as the other two get forward.

Any opposing manager with half a brain cell, uses the winger the and full back to double up on Carole / Fruity meaning that crosses invarably come in from the unmarked full back which are of poor standard. Likewise our full backs are often exposed due to the fact the winger hasn't come back to help them and the other team will score from the wing - That's where most of our goals are conceded from in my view.

Ashley Cole is the perfect example of what can be added to a team from a decent FB.

How are they giving him a rest? He is still going to play 90 minutes, just for a different side.

So you think the mentality, pace and physicality required from the two games is the same do you ?

Good move that. It would be great to progress further in the Cup and we should put out our best team possible.

If we could reach the semis, at least, it would do the kids' confidence a power of good.

So we shouldn't put out our best team in the first team in a relegation 6-pointer against Leicester?...

And IMO quite rightly. What I like about McGhee is that he thinks the long-term. Giving Lynch a break is better for his long-term development and improving the youth team will mean that they have a better chance of reaching the next round.

As I posted above, a decent run in the Cup would do wonders for them and ultimately improve all the kids as players - which is better for BHA in the long run.

McGhee's also right when he says that young players need to come in and out a bit before they establish themselves: they shouldn't think it's too easy. Even Wayne Rooney wasn't a fixture in the Everton team after his debut.

FFS... in case you haven't noticed... we are fighting to stay in the CCC... Mayo is NOT good enough at lb in the CCC, since he is too fcuking slow... Reid is NOT and never will be a lb... staying in the CCC is important to the development and retention of our excellent youth players too...

The point is he is being rested from the first team, but is still expected to play for the youth team, so where is the rest?

Just more McGhee logic, I guess.

Because by comparison playing for the youth team is a rest or do you think it is the same thing ?

Lynch playing in the youth cup gives us a stronger side to overcome Blackburn, for Saturdays 6 pointer MM needs an experienced left back so the place either goes to Kerry or Reidy. Both of them dont have any pace but Joel doesn't warrant keeping his place in such a vital match. To me it's the lesser of two evils and MM has to play devils advocate

Wasn't the goal being discussed at Sheffield blamed on FDM by most of NSC, until MM dropped him for it when he suddenly became blameless and the victim of another of the manager's unreasonable egostisical decisions? ???

I would say the FDM and Lynch were equally guilty for the 2nd goal at Sheff U... oh, and MM was wrong to drop the FDM... was Henderson at fault for the 1st goal against Cov?... if so, he should be dropped, or should it really work like that?... I certainly don't think it should, especially when it comes to the keeper position...
