Indeed, brilliant film making, i especially enjoy the interaction between the hobbits and the tree geezer.
There's some marvellous additional scenes with Treebeard in Fangorn Forest on the DVD extended addition. As well as a HUGE added section showing why Denethor thinks his son Boromir is the dogs bollocks, while his other son Faramir is a tosser (this is never touched upon in the original cinema release version).

I also enjoyed seeing Smeagol get a good kicking in the extended version as well - definately worth waiting and buying the 4-disc versions IMHO.

indeed.....LOTR....great for the kids!

or big kids!

Although nice, I don't go to a cinema to see
great acting or war scenes OTT.

I have to get more out of a film than that.

lol the war scenes in ROTK had 250,000 people (not that many extras I might add) so you can hardly tone it down to make it look not so OTT. IMO they are fantastic and give you a real sense of what a battle between humans & orcs might actually of been like.

I actually thought the tree thing ruined the second film.

It was going very well up to the point at which the trees came alive. It then went from fanntasy to just plain rediculous

Why didn't the Eagle creatures things just drop Mr Frodo "sniff" off at the mountain of Salamander or whatever his name was in the first episode, then we would not have had all the other two films?

Tree's, its in the books and they stayed as loyal to the books as possible.

Eagle's, do you really wanna give Palarse the credit for destroying the ring :lolol:

I prefer the original book and a bit of imaginative thinking.

Not seen any of the films but the kids enjoyed them.

Mind you as they are 11 and 6 I wouldn't expect them to read a 1000 page book !

Can't wait for the special edition to see the scenes with Saruman. That's one of favourite moments, it shows the hobbits have come of age and don't need any outside help.

The book is fantastic and Peter Jackson has done an excellent job. A real labour of love.

Because....no living creature would go anywhere near Mordor all the while the evil spirit of Sauron still ruled.

Thats my theory anyway.

Sounds about right to me. And the Nazgul would probably rip them to shreads.

I have not really seen much of LOTR.
I don't really like the Matrix trilogy.
I don't really like Harry Potter that much either.

Am I odd?

no Harris you aint odd, Matrix sucks anyway <awaits flames>

Allow me to start the next LOTR Film rumours:

Heard in several interviews with the stars & Jackson that there is talk of making a 4th film about what happens to the Hobbits later on - Personally I think that sucks and would ruin everything unless theres something major in it, not sure if Tolkien wrote anything after LOTR so it might be "made up" as it were!

Secondly there is huge talk of The Hobbit being made...YES! that would rock, trouble is it'll be like Lucas and Star Wars all over again...the first book last and all that :D

No way will Peter Jackson produce a 4th LOTR based on events after ROTK - he was quite meticulous in following Tolkiens books as closely as possible, while adapting it so it would "work" cinematically (eg putting the battle with Shelob into the 3rd film, when it actually takes place in the 2nd book). I can't see P J going out on a limb and making up a LOTR 4 that wasn't even written by Tolkien. What else could he do ? Sauron and Mordor was destroyed, thats it.

The Hobbit is a different matter though - I could see P J being interested in getting involved with that. But his next project is King Kong, apparently.

I think it could be good. King Kong is still a great story, and with up to date special effects, it should be pretty spectacular. Jackson has a hell of a lot to live up to now though, I can't see how he'll ever top the LOTR trilogy.

Actually, Kong is one of my earliest cinema memories. My mum & dad took me when I was about 6, and I can remember sitting there really bored, and driving my mum totally mad by asking "wheres the monkey ?" about every 5 mins, cos it must be getting on for an hour before you first actually see King Kong. Finally, the big ape appears out of the jungle to pick up his "sacrifice", that woman tied to the posts. I was absolutely horrified and asked to go home immediately. My mum spent the rest of the film sitting with me in the cinema foyer while my dad and sister watched the rest of the film.

:lolol: :jester:

(it still scares me a little bit even now)

Going back to a fourth Lord of the Rings movie. Bad idea, can't possibly happen. If you want to find out what happened afterwards wade through the appendix at he end of the book. There's a timeline for Middle Earth starting way back in the past and going on until all the main characters have died our sailed over the ocean.
