still can't work out why I thought coming in today was a good idea, got to London without a problem just before all the cancellations and chaos and now really not looking forward to getting home.

Or was it full of tedious old twats complaining for the four hundredth time this week that "a bit of snow and this country grinds to a halt...why can't we be
more like Norway/ Switzerland/ Canada etc"?
try commuting any sort of distance dear, then you'll be entitled to an opinion, until then just go back to working for your largely inneffective, inefficient, not fit for purpose employer, sussex police.

Just far enough away from LDC
on a point about north america - this time last year I was in chicago and they do get stacks of snow every year and from dec to march it's basically white.

They use farm machinery as snow ploughs and gritters etc and have snow blowers which double up at other times of the year - so the cost is actually quite minimal and it negates the 'you cant buy snow ploughs on the off chance' argument. And whilst snow is a rare occurrence, ice isn;t and gritters will get more usage.

O hare airport with it's 4 runways has the world's largest fleet of private snow clearing machinery. They have more than there are in the whole of wales

This make me laugh

So the Brighton to Bedford train no longer stops at Brighton or Bedford, in fact it looks to me like its Haywards Heath to City Thamslink only
Years ago, I remember Cross-Country Trains issuing a public notice of a change in their Christmas period timetable. It contained a completely baffling sentence to the effect of "The 0915 train from Brighton to Manchester (Piccadilly) will start from Poole and operate to Liverpool (Lime Street)".

In what sense was this still the Brighton to Manchester train?

Actually had a result tonight. Checked online before leaving the office and was gutted to see the 6pm (my usual) and 6.15pm Gatwick Express's from Victoria both cancelled.

BUT - Got to Victoria about 5 to 6 the 5.30 hadn't left yet. Jumped on just in time and got home roughly normal time.

I wish somebody would tell whoever is responsible for the roads in Haywards Heath as the main roads that the buses use are great but the side roads are a disgrace with nothing having been done to them.

The gritters in the States also deliver the grit at the front which gives the gritter more traction unlike the UK ones which (judging by some photos) can end up as Donald Ducked as the vehicles they’re trying to help.
