It's an interesting view.

I note he didn't address the self-LOLers though - those that aren't LOLing to someone else, they are merely, and again somewhat arrogantly, LOLing at their own contribution.

He does not, but then that's not really the fault of the word itself, but the person using it.

To be honest, I'm not sure I agree with him, I do find lol a little irritating and would certainly never use it myself.

I also disagree with his stance on the 'smilies'. Text is so easily and so often mis-interpreted that anything which can help a reader take the intended meaning from it should be encouraged imho.

Well, if the boss says that writing "LOL" is forbidden then I suppose
dura lex sed lex, as ancient Russians used to say.

However, the intricate knowledge of human nature that I acquired in
the course of life tells me that people will find a way to go around this
law. Writing L*L would be the obvious, albeit slightly unimaginative,
solution. They could also try to pretend that they're coughing and write
*coughLOLcough*; someone has already mentioned the option
of adding extra "o" letters in the middle.

All things considered, it is certainly a commendable intention of our dear
administrator to improve the level of English used on the board by eradicating
some aspects of text talk as well as incorrect grammar or usage, and I am
quite sure that we shall all endeavour to ascertain that the posts we make
are up to the highest standards of linguistic correctness, lucidity and style.
Indeed it is not within the scope of my limited abilities to find anything with
which I could conceivably disagree with Bozza in this regard.

Nevertheless, human nature being what it is, it would seem to be a good
idea to apply a more liberal approach in our general linguistic attitude towards
our fellow posters (providing they do not indulge in some extraordinary exhibition
of LOLing, OMGing and LMFAOing).

I'm totally up for a ban on lol. You don't lol, you bloody liars.

If you genuinely laugh out loud, you must upload a video of you lolling in order for the lol to be displayed alongside your verification video.

I guess I'll just say it since no one else has.

Why don't you just ban Lady Gull Bozza since she contributes probably 90% of NSC's Ls, Os, Xs and !s.
