Just 'cos you were born in England it doesn't mean you are English - Shane McGowan was born in Kent and he is as Irish as they come!!

:p

I'm not saying that he's not Irish, I'm just saying that if he's English-born he's unlikely to have 'come from Co Wicklow'.

Depends what you classify yourself as... I'm half-Italian, lived in UK since I was 3 but prefer Italian people and was born there and only had to move to England cos of a family crisis. I see myself as Italian.

I am English, I was born in England and I have a British passport, however my mother is Irish and has an Irish passport, I am therefore entitled to an Irish Passport should I choose to apply.

I know this lad comes from Man U but he is only 19 and has only played 4 games...For Walsall. I feel this is a waste of money as for what we are paying him we could save that and use one of our promising youngsters.

I know it has only been friendlies but I have quite liked what I have seen of our young defenders so far and this bloke has only played 4 more games than them.

If he is on the verge of the Man U first team then what is he doing on-loan with us?

I still think for someone who has only played 4 games he is still a bit of a gamble and I would have preferred to have taken a gamble with one of our own players.

How do we know that, he has only ever played league 1 football?...And 4 games at that. Ok, he has played at U21 level, but then so has Dan Harding.

Hmmm, have some Man U player come in "just to get some games" or have one of our own come through like Virgo or Hinshelwood. See what you mean, difficult choice to make there!!!!!

Thimble, aren't you assuming that MM brought him to Brighton knowing nothing about the player? Actually, the truth is that YOU know nothing about him and so that is why you feel he's a "waste of money" isn't it?

Potential Prem player, knocking on the door of their first team but needs competitive games - isn't that why a loan like this can work for everyone involved?

If he fails to impress or fill his position, he will probably get replaced by one of OUR, Championship division, 'potential first teamers' - remembering of course that there must be a reason OUR lads haven't made the first team for us until now.

Choices abound! Capiche?

Wrong, I am not assuming McGhee bought him knowing nothing about him, he has said himself he watched him in the reserves. Correct I know nothing about him.

I would still rather we tried our youth players, especially now, as we are finally getting quality youngsters emerging...Instead we are giving some other clubs youth players experience....We will benefit more from having our own players given a try out.

Surely the youth team defenders we have must be knocking on the door of the Albion first team? If they are considered not good enough then why are they still here?

What I am trying to say is that for what he is I do not think we have gained much...If he comes in and plays blinders then fair enough but it does not always work. Let's face it, Chris May could have played when Kuipers got injured and he would have been no worse than Yelldell...He would not have been as good as Blayney for obvious reasons.

Prehaps I am the only one who wants to see our youth players come through the ranks...

All very well in sentiment, but if we only use our own youth system to bolster what is already a fairly hopeful Championship team that scraped the last season by ONE point, then we are going to be relegation certs.
We buy players, we borrow them, we work our way up the league and try to make more dough as a business to maintain a challenge and a quest for a stadium. That's how it works, and only a couple of clubs in the Prem can afford not to take loans!

I think it's naiive to want to attempt this campaign without bringing in new faces from outside, and improve the side with the few decent players we can afford at the moment. Anything less and we'd soon be a 'pub team'!
