Yeah coz Reading's situation is so similar to ours.

Identical ground

Identical fortune of Chairman

Identical calibre of players

I could go on...
Oh come on, he signed Kevin Doyle for less than we signed Turienzo... That alone proves his transfer knowledge and eye for a bargain is way above what Magoo's will ever be.

How much did we pay for Currie?

Coppell was here a year, which players that he signed were still here uncrocked when he left except Leon?

Short term solutions was all he was interested in when he was here, I reckon he never had any intention of staying here, but let's worship him and slag off the man who has (imo) done FAR FAR more than the Palace one....for this club at any rate

Before Coppell: Just above mid-table.

After Coppell: The best team in The Championship by a country mile, and nearly secured promotion in January.

I'm not comparing them to us, I'm comparing them (before) to them (now). DO ONE.

Three seasons, big budget and the team made the playoffs the year before he got there, there really is no comparison. When was the last time we spent £1million on a player?

He has merely carried on the job started by Pardew and taken a while to do it too

A lot of clubs had been tracking Doyle after his performances for Cork, including us. Naturally Doyle went to the club with the biggest resources and set-up. You might as well complain about us missing out on the signing of Van Nisterooy too.

What did you think of Coppell's performance at Brentford when he blew the 3-way fight for the championship and promotion with us and Reading?

Did Brentford really have less resources at his disposal than Peter Taylor?

No....but one of his best players (Gavin Mahon) was sold to Watford behind his back, hench the reason he didn't sign a new contract.

However I personally believe that Coppell and McGhee are on a par. Coppell is probably better in the transfer market - Mcghee seems to good at blooding youngsters and getting results from a limited budget.

Coppell was (is) a good manager but his reluctence to play anyone under 25 was a concern. If he had stayed, Virgs would not have got in the team and we would be 1.5 quid poorer. Swings and roundabouts etc.

Doubt it, look at what he's done with Reading. If he was here now we'd probably be comfortably mid-table.

I never said he was a bad manager, just that I could never accept him and never will after years of anti palarse/coppell chanting.

But now you mention what he has done at Reading, just look at who he can sign as Madejski is going to leave if he gets them up, so he is just trying to get them there asap now, hence why Coppell has had a fair amount of cash.

Also Pardew got Reading where they are, Coppell has just picked up the reigns, fumbled a bit, but is getting there now, it also helps when you have a big stadium that when filled can resemble something of an atmospehere, helps the players a bit too.

I would rather McGhee than Coppell anyday, and believe with Coppell at the reigns we would be no better off, as I with the current restrictions ground wise/money wise we can't exactly attract a lot of good players, so it would be pretty much the same no matter who was in charge
