The reading room in the British Museum used to be FANTASTIC

It was - the best place in the UK to do some work. I used to day dream, just looking at the surroundings. I haven't been to the new one, I just know I'll be disappointed.

So i received an email from the library saying my copy of (hardback) Bill Browder’s Freezing Order is ready for collection. I’ll return Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe (hardback) - highly recommended btw, and will also return The Anglo Saxons by Marc Morris - speed read as too much detail for me. I’ve extended my loan of The Otherlands by Dr Thomas Halliday as I want to give it another go.

These are all hardback so are a pleasure to read. Nice big print. Proper books. All books I’ve been recommended or read about anfpd thought might be interesting. No charge for any of these.

Of course they are only available when available so I may have to wait, but that’s ok. It’s all done from my phone - except collection and return.

If you think you just go to the library and browse what’s there, well, time has moved on. From your phone you look at the entire West Sussex catalogue. Reserve it, then wait notification to pick up. It’s a quality service. Highly recommended.

Mrs DiS and I have recently restarted using our local library. She will often order stuff. And it’s often pretty busy.

They also seem to do things for kids and mothers and toddlers. Our granddaughter (9 years old in South Wales) loves her local library.

Can one respond to one’s own post? Yes!

I went in to our local library on Thursday morning. It was heaving! Pushchairs everywhere. If it’s a way of getting kids interested in books and reading, then I’m not going to complain.

Like others on here, I love having and holding books. I do not have any inclination to read off an electronic device. I was going to say I don’t understand the attraction of….., but I do. I would just rather choose and carry a book.
