Recent kit sponsor dinner where he was there. MM didnt show and DK was rather quiet.

Would you like to see the photo for confirmation? I got Ned to take it. DK was far from quiet.

Btw the players get one day off a week.
Training once a week? :lolol: :lolol: :lolol:
That's the best wind up I've read on here for ages.

I do find it interesting that Lloyd now is remember with an element of good will, when you think back to how much hatred there was towards him by the end. I remember Gullseye producing those 'Visionary Dethroned' tee-shirts after he went.

There are those of us who still celebrate his departure.

Top post Pavilionaire. Mark McGhee is a good, honest, nice man who has given us some brilliant days. Although we are going down now, we are NO WORSE OFF than when he took over, so how can you criticise the man? If we were on the brink of League 2, then I would agree with slating him, but we are not. We just don't have the finances to compete in the division below the Premiership. I would not even let the thought of sacking McGhee cross my mind until AT LEAST Christmas of next season, and only then if we were seriously struggling. Seriously, what do some people expect? Every season three teams get relegated from the Championship, we should be favourites for that every single time. To keep us up once was great work, he can't be expected to do it indefinitely. Just give the guy a break, get behind him, and let's see what he can do in League 1 - where he is totally proven, unlike anyone else we would be likely to get in.

Mark McGhee's Blue and White Army:clap2:

P.S Having said all that, I can still see the man's weaknesses, and I am certainly not in love with him a la London Irish. But, in our situation it is fair to assume we will not attract Jose Mourinho or Arsene Wenger to the job, so let's have some respect for the guy who is doing it.

What a good, balanced post.

I wonder if the Albion or some of its fanbase is developing a "bigger club than this" syndrome now they've seen the artist's impressions of the nice shiny stadium we're going to have. One day.

Some of the recent anti-McGhee comments on this board are well out of order.

Whether or not you think he should remain as manager remember this:

1. He gave us the best day out since 1991 and got us promoted.
2. He kept us up against the odds last seasons.
3. He has not walked away from this club, like the 4 big names before him.
4. He's brought in money to the club from player trading.

The club is no worse off now than when he took over. We're closer to Falmer than we were then and we've got great kids coming through. Few managers could have kept things afloat during these 3 troubled seasons like he has.

Whatever happens to him in the future he'll have my respect.

He is a top man. Agree with all the sentiments expressed here.

I'm not comparing, but if you took Steve Gritt's career as a whole you might not have much to shout about, but take that amazing run in that kept us in the league and you have a legend. I have respect for what MM has been doing with our club, in some respects a little more challenging than old division 3, just not as consequential.

It shows how Brighton fans have changed over the years, I remember when we lost at home to Rotherham in 1993, the fans were on the pitch after the game calling for Lloyd to go. I remember the stick he got at Fulham around the same time, when he had to walk past the away end to get to the dug out. Yet McGhee is churning out worse results (and not having to be MD) and gets little stick.

Makes you wonder if some of these people would have questioned things between 1995 and 1997.

Piers mate, surely you are not suggesting those that are currently still backing McGhee (for the moment anyway) did not question Archer & Co. and not get involved in the demonstrations, etc?

Albion & England forever.

Rubbish, you're twisting my words. I haven't said he's had mixed fortunes therefore he should go, I've said he deserves respect for what he's achieved but in my opinion I think we need a change. I might be completely wrong about that, time will tell. I think he's lost his way, I'd love him to turn it around but I can't see it.

I'm sure Mark McGhee himself would admit he's made errors this season and because he's in the results business he'd expect the chairman to be extremely concerned about the team's performance.
Of course he would admit he's made errors - that's obvious about every manager in the history of the game. But you appear to be working on an assumption that Dick Knight is judging him by results and performances alone. I don't believe he is. In an ideal world, sound business judgement would need to maintain that Dick Knight will have to be as certain as he can that offloading Mark McGhee is absolutely the right thing to do. Getting rid of him may not, in the chairman's mind, necessarily represent a resolution of what problems there may be.

Okay, take out the line "Once a week", and I'll agree with everything there. The set pieces point is especially salient; contrast with the organisation and well-thought out routines displayed by the Youth Team.

And point two I have no reason to disbelieve.

I don't think I am the only one torn over the McGhee issue. On the one hand he is an intelligent, atsute manager who believes in passing football (see some of our stuff at the start of the season).
He has done a lot for our club, has been loyal, and is light years away from imbeciles like Barry Lloyd. On the other hand he lets himself down in his dealings with some players (ego), team selection (inability to change, at times) and tactics (sometimes). Against that he has had a bugger of a job to do - so, to sum it up, I dont know how I feel - but I wish for him passionately to succeed with us.
