Our present position is completely & utterly unsustainable, irrespective of who is in charge. Over the next 5 years we need to concentrate on staying in league, let alone this division. Get used to it! Every week we play a team that have at least 1 player who cost more than our entire squad. What do you expect? Don't you think that McGhee would have liked to have signed Fryatt? Instead we are stuck with the likes of McPhee, who couldn't even cut it at conference level. We have to rely upon 2nd division players playing out of position, and championship players 5 years past their sell by date! We will be back, but not for another 5 years.

Don't know why you are bothering - there is a lot of sense in what you say but a lot of people who are putting their fingers in their ears and singing La La La - Can't hear. If anyone backs your views - they will be attacked with vitriolic comments about cliques, rose tinted spectacles etc.

At a time when we should all be pulling together, a pointless civil war is breaking out between rival factions. If you want McGhee and Knight out - DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Have the balls to stand up for your beliefs and protest - then we will see how much in a majority or otherwise you are. But don't start yet more threads about how many games McGhee has won (Yes, you Scoop) or how we should have signed such and such, blah, blah. It is becoming tedious in the extreme. Yes - we know - you want McGhee and/or Knight out. Bully for you.

BTW - anyone else find the McGhee/Knight out "clique" ironic because I do. After months - nay years of jumping up and down, claiming foul and "clique" if someone differs from their views, the same people trample all over anyone who tries to say something optimistic - normally abusively.

Anyway - flame away because this is my last post on the subject. It is tedious in the extreme. Personally, if McGhee stays or goes - I'm ambivilent. If Knight is somehow forced out - I will be mortified. Thanks for 10 solid years of your life - now sod off before you see your dreams come to fruition - oh - you want a reason? For not putting the club further in debt by "opening the purse strings". People who advocate that should hang their heads IMHO.

I agree about Knight, I think most people who want rid of Mcghee dont want Knight to go.

That is an extremely accurate assessment, however as TGC points out you may as well have saved yourself the bother. I've been thinking about this and I've come to the conclusion it's an 'age an experience' thing. My mum has said to me how calm I seem about it, pointing out that when we got relegated from the 2nd tier once before (can't remember the exact year but it may have been 1986) I was spitting feathers from about Christmas onwards: Sack the board, sack the manager, sell the players, buy new ones, etc etc. Now I realise there's a lot worse things than merely getting relegated, even for a football club.

I would guess most of the posters on here who say stuff along the lines of "Look at the wider picture and get some perspective" are all 35+ whereas those who are in the "Sack Magoo and then get your chequebook out Knight and never mind the consequences" camp are all younger than that. I completely understand the view, I would probably be saying the same thing myself. However, take it from me there ARE worse things than getting relegated by one division.

Oh and please don't bother saying "Well I'm over 35 and I think that relegation would be The End Of The World As We Know It" - there's always going to be some wise youngsters and some old 'uns who haven't learnt any of life's lessons.

Another perspective

Shef Wed - Average attendance 24,000
Brighton - Average attendance 6,700

If you conservatively estimate the average ticket price to be £20 for us and £17 for Wednesday. That gives Wednesday around £270,000 more income a game.

This is the reason we are struggling to compete!

The only other clubs that have a similar income to ourselves are Crewe, Millwall & Luton - can you spot a pattern here?

Just as an aside - Luton are the only one of those teams to have a decent target man - see another coincidence?

Brovian, I am 40 and definitely fall into the "look at the wider picture" category. I have followed the Albion for around 30 years, in that time it has been a rollercoaster of emotions, we have seen good and bad in Managers, Chairmen and Players.

Personally I would be disappointed if we went down as following on from last season I was optimistic of a mid-table finish, however that now looks highly unlikely. If we go down it won't be the end of the World, losing at Hereford in 97 might well have been, we will never really know.

I certainly don't want to see MM sacked, his tactics have on occasion confused me but I have no experience whatsoever at football coaching or management so am not really best placed to comment. What I do know is that he has achieved wonders with relatively little, we are all aware of the fact that many players refuse to even entertain coming to Withdean, that is a fact and we just have to get on with it.

I would however be really sad if DK chose to end his association with the Albion as I suspect we may no longer have a club in its current form, more likely an FC Brighton competing in the County League or some level of the Ryman League. He has worked tirelessly to bring us to the point where we can be really optimistic about the future, a new stadium is on the horizon, this will then allow us to move forward in real terms after years of trying to tread water in mountainous seas.

As for NSC, there is freedom of speech, so what if you say something that offends occasionally, tough, we live in a free country thank God. As long as it is not a verbal assault on a particular individual and just your personal opinion print and be damned I say. (IMHO)

Sussex, by the sea
we have a shit manager and sopme poor players
we can't attract any players to the club. In my opinion its for two reasons, the whole stadium/money/club situation and the fact we have a charismaless manager who plays dull football, and players don't want to come and play for him.

Adams, Taylor and Coppout didn't have too much difficulty attracting players better than wee have now.

I am one of those old 'uns who hasn't learn't any of life lesson according to you.

But i see it different it's my view that all the mcgee must stay cos he is the Messiah are people who have never played football competitively or managed a team in there life- cos if they had they would realised he can not man manage and can not make simple tactical decisions.

Wise words indeed. I can't say I was over enamoured at MMs appointment, and he has done nothing since to improve my opinion of him, however the restraints imposed by the clubs current predicament far outweigh the ability or otherwise of the manager. Until such time as we are all sitting in our comfy seats at Falmer and the manager can be provided with a decent playing budget we are a club in limbo. The focus until then has to be staying in business, not necessarily staying in the championship . Although I, like all other fans, desperately don't want to see us relegated, in the grand scheme of things I believe it is more important we are playing at this level in 5 years time when we should be able to compete with the majority of teams in the league rather than jeopardising our future now by spending money we don't have. Even if MM were to get the chop, how are we to pay him off ?

The idea that Knight should go is simply insulting. If it were not for him we would have no club to be discussing - end of. The man is deservedly and Albion legend and should be allowed to get on with the job of running the club and getting us to Falmer without any distraction.
