Leon Knight has been banned from playing football in this country until 2011!

Why doesn't he just turn up for training for R&D. That way they have to pay him or get rid of him.

I am no fan of him but how can you sack someone and stop him playing elsewhere?

Surely the point is that otherwise when Charlton come in for Glenn Murray, and Dick turns down the bid, Murray could just act like a complete twat, refuse to turn up to training, etc (or do a Mutu and take up the charlie), until we fire him, and then go and sign a contract with Charlton on a free. In the event of a player being fired for gross misconduct the club can seemingly keep ownership of the player's registration for the duration of the original contract.

He is playing for some time in the Greek Superleague until the end of the season.

In that case we would hold the registration and have to pay him and let him rot in the reserves or not pay him via a disciplinary system agreed with the PFA.

We couldn't just say we are not paying you for the next two years and stop him playing elsewhere.

They haven't stopped him playing elsewhere... they've said he can't play for free anywhere else; i.e. they would be owed a transfer fee. It seems to me to be exactly the same as the Mutu case, except with that there was no legislation in place at the time so Chelsea had to chase it retrospectively, whereas now I assume that the legislation is in place to deal with it.

Today I had Lou Maccari come in as a guest speaker at university, he had a lot to say about Leon Knight. Said that although that he was a very good footballer, but when he signed him at Huddersfield on loan, him and Carlton Cole went away for a weekend in Brighton and got arrested for causing trouble or something. Also, his first training session, he was that unfit he couldn’t do one lap of the pitch. When he was working for MUTV Maccari watched united ressies against Sheffield Wednesday ressies (Knight’s first game for them) Maccari said he was that bad he could of 'throttled him'
