Why doesn't he just turn up for training for R&D. That way they have to pay him or get rid of him.
I am no fan of him but how can you sack someone and stop him playing elsewhere?

Surely the point is that otherwise when Charlton come in for Glenn Murray, and Dick turns down the bid, Murray could just act like a complete twat, refuse to turn up to training, etc (or do a Mutu and take up the charlie), until we fire him, and then go and sign a contract with Charlton on a free. In the event of a player being fired for gross misconduct the club can seemingly keep ownership of the player's registration for the duration of the original contract.
In that case we would hold the registration and have to pay him and let him rot in the reserves or not pay him via a disciplinary system agreed with the PFA.
We couldn't just say we are not paying you for the next two years and stop him playing elsewhere.
