But not one for yet, he's not playing for Chelsea! How can anyone suggest he should be in the full national squad rather than players playing every game?!

Surely Turner of Hull should be ahead of him, and Taylor at Newcastle, Cahill at Bolton.

Taylor at Newcastle will be like Jagilka in a few seasons, he just needs to keep his head a little better in big games

Ninja, stop suggesting OKish Premiership centre backs for England.

Woodgate should be in there, but seems to be Cappello's blind spot. I guess for King to play they have to do what Ireland used to do with McGrath, nurse him through and hope it works.

Osman is nowhere near international standard.

Unless you haven't spotted it, most of our players are OKish, as you put it. Rio/JT/Woodgate... other? Carragher being in retirement is annoying.

Osman is a nifty little player who could do a good job linking up play for England, he should atleast be given a chance. His form at Everton is constantly good, what more does he have to do?!

The centre back cupboard is a tad empty compared with say Euro 2004, but the players you are suggesting are not up to it. Lescott is not an international class player, but he is marginally better than the ones you are banging on about.

Osman is nowhere near the standard of Gerrard, Barry, Carrick, Lampard (really), Hargreaves (when fit) and so has no place in the squad.

As others have said - the choice of Ledley King is bizarre. As a good a player as he is, I don't understand what he contributes to the squad. He will never be able to play in a world cup, he won't be able to train with his England team mates and he chances are he will get injured again soon anyway. Feel sorry for him, but he isn't England material anymore with his condition.

I think it's time that Woodgate got a chance under Capello. Didn't we see last time that, although a decent player, Upson is just not quite good enough for international level. He might prove us wrong but I'm not hopeful.

What is the story behind King only playing in games but not training ?
Surely thats not correct ?

It is - he has a condition, something to do with fluid building up in his knee, which means if he trains he won't be able to play. As I understand it he spends the whole week on his own keeping fit by swimming and upper body exercises and then watches the team set pieces on Friday. He was advised to retire wasn't he? Real shame for him anyway as he is a good player who could have been great.

Kin el , I can understand it if its a short term problem, but if its permanent you can't have a player like that.

i love the way on NSC people just put 'he's not good enough' or 'he's not international standard' ...

what does international standard mean anyway? how many times have england lost or drawn againts teams with players who aren't up to some posters 'international standards' ... quite a lot i'd bet.

Baines deserves his call-up and, IMHO, is better than Bridge and pisses on Shorey.

As for Ledley King, I was surprised at his inclusion but then Cappello is trying to qualify for a World Cup so will pick a squad to beat the Ukraine. For me the guys I'd most like to see at CB in a big England match are Rio, Terry, Woodgate and King in that order. I don't mind Lescott or Upson vs Slovakia but in a big match they'd scare me.
