STATEMENT ISSUED BY LEICESTER CITY FOOTBALL CLUB

Three Leicester City players were tonight (Thursday) freed following police investigations into an incident during the club's Spanish training camp.

Steffen Freund, Greek international Nikos Dabizas and goalkeeper Danny Coyne were all released by a Spanish judge in Cartagena after the court heard evidence from the players and three female complainants.

Freund has been released without charge, while Dabizas and Coyne have been 'provisionally freed' which means none of them will be facing the original charges made against them.

A further six City players will be detained overnight while the judge considers whether there is any further case to answer on Friday morning.

"We are pleased that three of our players have been cleared of improper conduct. They are now free to leave Spain and will be returning to England as soon as is possible, " said Chief Executive Tim Davies.

Davies and manager Micky Adams are in Spain with the remaining players. It is anticipated that a decision will be announced by the judge on Friday morning.

The City squad flew out to the La Manga complex for a pre-arranged training camp on Sunday.

After investigations were mounted by the police into an alleged incident, the club took the decision to fly home the remainder of the squad on Thursday evening.

The club have also released a further statement about the situation which reads:"Due to the ongoing investigations of the Spanish authorities, the club is not in a position to comment in detail on the specific charges and allegations which have been made.

"However, the club is treating this situation with the utmost seriousness and will be launching its own full and thorough internal investigation. We have spoken with our players and they wish to make it clear that they will vigorously contest all charges and allegations made against them. Our immediate next step is to bring home all our players as soon as is practically possible and get everyone back on the training ground ahead of our Premiership trip to Birmingham in nine day's time."
