With Spurs Having 3 strikers and on the look out for a 4th maybe a fresh attempt to sign Barnard maybe worth it?
Also Jamie O Hare would do a very good job in place of Oatway.

So a player is signed for his vocal abilities now?

Charlie may not be the most technically gifted player ever to have played for the Albion, what he is however is a good leader who motivates the younger players, he also gives us bite in midfield. I personally believe the team missed him when he was injured, would we have stayed up if he had remained fit, maybe not but it is just one of those things we will never know. I think he can play a big part in the team next season, we just need him to get fit first.

Sorry to drag this back in the vague direction of the original point, but:

Yes, I think another attempt to sign Lee Barnard on loan might at least be worth a shot, seeing as Spurs seem to be signing up any players going at the moment and so he may be pushed down the pecking order to the point where they would loan him out

He's hardly a target man though is he, or a household name.

Can't see too many household names queuing up to sign for us, Woodchip. In any case it's a player's ability, not his name that dictates whether he should be a transfer target or not.

As for Oatway, he's the beating heart of the team. The best team from any squad is not necessarily composed only of the best 11 players. Oatway may not pass like Hoddle or score loads of goals but his importance to the dressing room cannot be overstated, and that manifests itself on the team's performances for me.

Langdon, do you honestly think that with Oatway in the side last season we'd have won fewer than 7 games? We simply weren't good enough, nobody will ever know if he'd have made a positive (or negative) difference because he wasn't there, so I think that was a grossly unfair dismissal of what he brings to the side.

He's a shade under six foot, but he's actually a pretty decent target man - was superb against Bolton in the penultimate game of last season.

The question is does Barnard want to play under MM? I think that one of the reasons we haven't signed household names this season is largely due to the kind of management. Taking away all the personel, the club is no less desireable now than it was when Adam's was here (infact you could argue it is more attractive due to the new stadium on the horizon). Adam's was able to sign the kind of players we are in short supply of now. So you have to ask the question, why can Adam's do it and not McGhee? It comes down to the fact that most players want to improve and they can see themselves doing that under someone like Micky Adams, however it is obvious that they can't see Mark McGhee being able to help them improve. Just look at CKR - he was full of potential, to the extent that Premiership clubs were interested, however MM has done little to turn the potential into a good player. CKR is much the same player now as he was when he joined last season.

Oatway brings something to the team which no other player in the squad can currently do - and sense of fight, passion, leadership. Admittedly, that says more about the others than it does about Charlie, but your insinuation that he holds little value to the team doesn't stand up.

Agreed, he is a vital part of the team.

Also agreed... so why aren't we showing ANY signs of trying to find a replacement?... typical complacency from our beloved club when it comes to getting players in...
