Least favourite place in the world, other than Croydon.

Actually, I was and I wasn't. I do remember when 'modern' Croydon was built in the early 1960s it was years in advance of almost every other town and city in Britain. I do remember the thrill of driving under the underpass, over the flyover and past the modern 'skyscrapers'. Yes, that's a bit sad but I was very young and these were among the first ones in Britain to be built. I also think that most of it has aged pretty well and it isn't as soulless as somewhere like Bracknell.

New development is something Brighton has never quite got the hang of. It's either opposed or if it does go ahead it's often inappropriate. This was certainly true in the 1960s

... I should add 'up to now' The modern devlepoments (Library, station, FALMER, skating arena, Marina etc) will be real assets to the town and will fit in well.

What does Deportivo stand for?

Its nearest equivalent is 'sporting', though you do have Sporting Santander or Sporting Gijon (pronounced Gi Hon. Depor aren't the only club that use it, there's Deportivo Alaves and I think Zaragoza has Deportivo in its name.
Full name is 'Real club de Deportivo 'A Coruna'

Great.

I bet the chant 'GIVE US AN R'!! lasts until half time. Krispies would run out of phlegm before he got to 'GIVE US AN E'

Absolutely right - it seems heresy to say it given Falmer but sometimes the Nimbys are RIGHT.

What's wrong with Croydon? It's got a great mix of architectural styles; the 'mini-Manhattan' look you get when approaching from Fiveways, the beautiful old Town Hall, Fairfield Halls, the Whitgift Center, the sweeping grandeur of East Croydon station, the magnificent modern tram system, the glories of Surry St. Market and the underpass (one of the first in the country).

Florence. The people are plesant and good looking which makes up for the place being a run down shit hole. Looks more like Baghdad with its decaying buildings everywhere. Some people think it's romantic but I think it's just cheap marketing. There is a difference between nice old buildings like say, in Paris, compared to the garbage that graces this medieval wreck.

And don't bother trying to drive there, the road system is the worst I've ever experienced. You would be better off trying to navigate through one of those giant mazes. An absolute shit hole that needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

Corby. One of the largest towns in Britain without a railway station. And one of the shittiest. Forcibly relocated half of British Steel from Scotland to this shithole then that evil bitch Thatcher closed the steelworks. Only people to benefit are Tennents the brewers whose purple tins do a ROARING trade.

Erm,

Yakutsk, Yakutia is without doubt the shittiest place (with the nicest, warmest, friendliest and most stoical people) I have ever been in my life. Clouds of mossies in summer, -40 in the winter, no metalled roads, buildings falling down and an unremitting diet of polluted river fish and scraggy goat/sheep.

The place with the crappiest people award goes to Paris...

Nah, if you want to pick an Italian city, go for Venice - it's like staying in a theme park.

Don't bother to drive there either, the roads are completely water-logged.
