Following on from the favourite place in the world other than home thread.

I will start with Tangier, Morocco. Absolute shit-hole, nearly got stabbed. Twice.

Not dissimilar to Luton, actually.

Quito Police Station, Ecuador. I was held there for four hours in a courtyard, with 5 other 'gappers' as we were arrested for being in a park after a cufew and not having any ID on us. 9pm - 1am

Under armed guard with drunks, druggies and prostitutes of the whole capital.

You sure that wasn't East Croydon police station?

What's wrong with Croydon? It's got a great mix of architectural styles; the 'mini-Manhattan' look you get when approaching from Fiveways, the beautiful old Town Hall, Fairfield Halls, the Whitgift Center, the sweeping grandeur of East Croydon station, the magnificent modern tram system, the glories of Surry St. Market and the underpass (one of the first in the country).

In the early 1960s I used to stand in my garden in Sanderstead and looking down the hill I could see them building the new office blocks including the Nestle building (I think it was called St George's house originally). Ah memories.

I think it should be disallowed due to distinct similarities.

New one, least favourite place - Los Angeles. Crass, noisy, dirty and highly overrated.

BoF..You are (were) one of my top hole posters. If you go on about EC with unsubstantiated derogatory comments. You will never be invited to tea.

Buffalo, NY.

Especially in Jan and Feb. A shithole at the best of times but with snow as high as your armpits on the side of the road, -15C and all of the natives cackling away in their weird Western New York dialect...

AVOID.

It also bears an uncanny resemblance to Croydon:lol:

the coastal port of Surathani on the east coast of thailand. it is from here you get the ferry to ko phanghan and ko samui however if you miss the last crossing you are forced to spend the evening in this dump where the locals are hostile, the food is un-digestable and the place generally stinks of rotting fish as the fishermen and the markets tend to just leave unsold fish to rot in the streets.

not nice

Basically wouldn't let a 'guide' show me how to walk out of the port in exchange for money, he got angry, as did his mates. Threatened to stab us so told him to f*** off. All got a bit nasty, and this was going on right in front of the police who did nothing. I was only there on a morning trip from Spain so we thought sod it and walked back into the port to see when the next boat back was! This guy then came up to us again an hour later and said that now that we had calmed down(!) maybe he could show us the beaches. Yeah right mate! Then when we said no he threatened us again.

Then, while we were waiting for the boat some Arab came up to me, gave me some Moroccan tea and said in perfect English "I really hope you get your new stadium" (I was wearing my Albion shirt). Bizzare.

In a strange sort of way it was one of the funniest mornings of my life.

The democratic and free EU
At number 3: Linz in Austria. Maybe the centre is quite nice, but I never found it - just spent several miserable hours in driving drizzle lost in an industrial estate and unable to escape.

At number 2: Liege, Belgium. Because it's a shithole, and everyone I know who goes there gets either pickpocketed or mugged. The same can be said of Charleroi.

But at number 1 with a bullet, the unsurpassable Port Talbot. I often have to bypass it (the best thing to do) on my way to and from the mother-in-law's in Swansea. It's an eyesore. Simply shouldn't exist. (Similar things can also be said about Neath, Pontypridd, Mountain Ash, Aberfan, Merthyr Tydfil, etc. etc. and many places in South Wales that make Cardiff look like El Dorado.)

(Special gold stars with distinction to Bintauna in Sulawesi, Indonesia; Baguio in the Philippines; Hezuo in China; Puerto Limon in Costa Rica; Oradea in Romania; and of course, Goring-by-Sea.)

Agree with that. Too hot, too smelly and too dirty.

Funny that I had the chance to move back to Brighton and chose to stay put. Still it is/was my choice. the delights of Shirley/West Wckham against Hollingdean or Hollingbury.

Now who is taking the piss.

there is abig wide world out there boys and girls. It doesn't start and end between the Pier and Preston Park.

:p

And don't get me started on Portslade
