Kerry Mayo

I give him credit in other areas. I think his positioning is good, I think his experience helps those around him, and despite his short comings, I think he takes responsibility and gives it his all. So a poor game but still offers something to us.

Quite so, that's what I saw in him today too. I can't remember Kerry defensively putting a foot wrong in the first half either - he had a few problems in the second half with some diagonals lofted in his direction, Rosenoir I guess turning our own tactics on us, but it's a moot point whether Rents would have dealt with them any better, no giant he.

Our whole defence didn't have a great deal to do in the 1st half though did it?

Sorry, but I think Rents deserves a chance.

So do I, but is Forest really the game to bring him in?

I thought Mayo played quite well.

Didn't make any mistakes that cost us so much as a shot let alone a goal.

Typical NSC kneejerk backlash against an easy target.

Absolutely - there are a few on here alas who can't cope with a disappointment without putting a scapegoat on the bonfire. Maybe Mayo could have done better with the clearance for the 2nd and Hendo maybe should have got a hand to the free kick for the first, but the key errors were earlier than that - Stokes for giving away a needless free kick and El Abd for badly misjudging a defensive header.

The problem with scapegoating Stokes and El Abd of course is that otherwise they both had good games, particularly the midfielder. So of course more vulnerable targets have to be picked, guys like Mayo and Hendo who are used to having a lynch mob on their tail on here.

I think you will find Carpenter was at fault for the freekick that we conceded. He let a Brentford player ghost past him and then Stokes brought him down just outside the box.
Mayo was poor today and I am not scapegoating him either just my opinion which is what this message board is all about.
Yesterday I thought the two weak links in the defence were El-Abd and Mayo. Poor passing on occasions by both and some their clearances were terrible. As you quite rightly point out it was El-Abd's lack of a clearance that led to the equaliser.
Apart from scoring the penalty I thought Hammond had quiet game yesterday too, Stokes and Carpenter got through far more work then he did. Considering Carpenters age now he got through a lot of work yesterday, Mr Hammond should take note.

Another neutral view shock

Andy Naylor gives Mayo a 7 in his match review too :D

Naylor is a clown.

Not sure how Stokes got less then Mayo in those marks?

Me neither, maybe he marked him down for the foul for the first goal? El Abd did nothing wrong in the game either apart from in the 94th minute and also got 6.

Naylor's marks are identical to Castle's, except that Naylor, rightly, gives Stokes a higher mark.

And get over your Naylor phobia, he has an excellent reputation in the journo industry.
