Quite the lengthy sentence for them coming and rightly so. Positive action can be justified in extreme circumstances but this isn't one of them. It is criminal damage, pure and simple, and damaging the cause they support.

People taking actions and initiatives for a better world... like miners going on a strike, suffragettes bombing to make their point because words werent enough, people violently protesting tyrannical governments, or fans invading pitches to protest poor owners... always a nuisance to someone, but what would the world look like without it?

Criminal damage for extremist domestic terrorists. Expect a lengthy prison stay.

"Just Stop Oil", what does it even mean? They're just empty words without meaning, they're using literally any excuse to go out and cause a bit of a nuisance. I'm convinced it's just a hobby for these people because they're bored and disaffected.

And they're allowed to get away with it because of their middle class demographic or old biddies and academics. If it was a group of footy lads with an equally ridiculous slogan, fro instance "Just stop scarves", they'd be chucked in the cells within minutes and nobody would bat an eyelid.

Hilarious. Look at all those terms that you've managed to cram in there to describe a bit of damage to property. Still, it's an apt illustration of why we're in the mire we're plunging ourselves ever deeper into.

Their crowdfunding campaign has reached 62k (was 1.2k when the clown cable tied himself to the goalpost), so some people somewhere seem to think it is worthwhile.

If it weren't oil, it'd be violence against women. If it weren't violence against women it'd be a race issue. If not that, then cost of living.

These people are professional campaigners/complainers who will be at every single rally for every single "issue", as long as they get to shout loudly, chain themselves to something or smash something up.

"Protestors" like this are to liberal thinking what PPF is to football fans. Any chance to cause a nuisance and be the centre of attention.

except they dont have an alternative, and want a regressive outcome. suffragettes want to enfranchise women, miners wanted more pay, better conditions. Stop Oil means we become poorer without personal transport.

we are already moving towards a lower oil world, so the protest is pointless.

Seems like it is primarily young people, interested in having a habitable planet when they get old.

Yes, dreadful lot, attempting to deflect ourselves away from business-as-usual. What we need is more people defending business-as-usual, which you've helpfully characterised for us as replete with environmental destruction, misogyny, racism and poverty.

You are being disingenuous. These people don't believe in any one cause, they want to change the world and are committing actual crimes in their attempts. This isn't about oil, it's all about them.

Were you planning to cycle from Sweden to Portslade?

I'm not convinced they're going about this the right way but to suggest that these are not 'extreme circumstances' is somewhat burying your head in the sand at going lalalalala in an attempt to ignore the science. That said I'm generally a fan of direct action but I think they're misguided on this and, as someone else articulated, championing the alternatives is probably a more successful approach.

I always wonder why The Police bother to remove someone who has stuck themselves to the middle lane of the M4 etc. Just drive round them they will get cold, hungry and wet.
