The only thing I remember about Marti Pellow was that he was born in a toilet in Clydebank. That, and the fact that he was shite, obviously.

On the number plate front, there used to be a car near where I lived in Newcastle with the registration DON 1. God knows what that was worth but it seemed pretty clear the owner had spunked all his money on the plate, because the car was a clapped out Mitsubishi Space Wagon, parked out front of an unremarkable council semi.

Marti hit the smack big time. There's a tremendous story i read about him which he allegedly told about how when he first became famous, he went back home to his house to see his Dad who asked him where he got his shirt from. He said something along the lines of it costing 90 quid and his dad punched him. It was a long time since i read that so not exactly sure if that was true but he certainly suffered from the excesses of fame.
