Just how much influence do the Police have on our first home fixture?

Looking at the teams in the Championship next season there are quite a few that would make a great opener. However, would the Police really welcome West Ham or Millwall? Aside from the possible hint of trouble would the Police want a more low key team what with possible teething problems in getting people in and out of the ground.

Palace or Pompey first game of the season would be incredible.

Murder for the Old Bill though

Think they would but they will be ready-the only thing i wonder is whether or not we get Police horses back in Brighton for the first time since what 1986? we used to have stables in John street and i cannot see us borrowing them from the Met etc indefinitely.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Palace as the frst game would be horrendous. Whilst it would be great if we won, it would be absolutely friggin awful if the first ever league game at The Amex was a Palace win. Wouldn't want to have the risk personally.

For whatever reason, teams rarely get their big local games first match of the season. It never opens up with Arsenal-Spurs, or Liverpool-Man United, does it?

No idea how that works, perhaps the clubs don't like their derby matches to be played at a time when attendances are lower as many people are on holiday. I would be amazed if the system turned up us against Palace first game. Have had a strange feeling it's going to be Leicester for a few weeks now. No idea why.

I think they'd want to keep it low key for the reasons that you've stated. I imagine it's possible to input this info in the fixture list compilation.

Would be the nightmare scenario playing palace - only in as much as the potential to actually lose the 1st ever game at Falmer to them would be horrendous.

Donnie would be ideal. low key nice game and good chance of us winning. Don't want top give away the unbeaten title at Falmer too easily, or too quickly.

They borrow them from other forces as and when needed. Sussex haven't had a mounted unit for years.

So in answer to the question i would say some-Brighton v Palace or Pompey is 99% unlikely to happen-mind you look at 1983-1984's opening home game.

Leicester would certainly fit the bill in terms of a fairly innocuous fixture.

Who's worrying?

This.

Perhaps the examples I used suggested a concern about trouble. Essentially it was just related to getting a big crowd in and out efficiently. As discussed at length on here it may be a learning curve for the fans on how best to organise your day.
