Just how much influence do the Police have on our first home fixture?

They borrow them from other forces as and when needed. Sussex haven't had a mounted unit for years.

Horses yesterday came from Kent as their horsebox was parked up on the edge of Preston Park.

Think they would but they will be ready-the only thing i wonder is whether or not we get Police horses back in Brighton for the first time since what 1986? we used to have stables in John street and i cannot see us borrowing them from the Met etc indefinitely.

Maybe we could lend them Sandaza, they could keep him at Gary Moore's yard.

I read an article about the man at the league who does the fixtures. I seem to recall they feed all the exceptions (Arsenal / Spurs) not playing at home on the same day etc.., try to match up local teams on Boxing Day etc.. first.

I don't know the exact mathematics, but I'd imagine the system that builds the fixtures is very very complex. Computers aren't very good at doing things "randomly" but at same type uniformly. For instance, you need to ensure that a team doesn't play 3 games away (or home) in a sequence.

I understand the process takes a while and a lot of manual intervention is required.

I think the police are part of a wider local committee regarding fixtures being moved so although they have some influence, they aren't the only ones making the decisions.

Interesting that no more than 2 - 2nd city teams play at home on the same day

For whatever reason, teams rarely get their big local games first match of the season. It never opens up with Arsenal-Spurs, or Liverpool-Man United, does it?

No idea how that works, perhaps the clubs don't like their derby matches to be played at a time when attendances are lower as many people are on holiday. I would be amazed if the system turned up us against Palace first game. Have had a strange feeling it's going to be Leicester for a few weeks now. No idea why.

My first feelings are Hull City for the opener, at The Amex. That would just be too good though, a very appropriate starter like that would have such a feelgood factor!

The company I work for does the fixtures and getting inside information is impossible !

Here is a link to a blog regarding the compilation of the fixtures:
