One thing about the US Constitution I can't get my head around is the period between electing a President and actually installing him in the White House - nearly 2 1/2 months. In most other countries it seems to be almost instantaneous or within a week. I suppose up until now it has worked as there has been a peaceful transition of power between Presidents. But now it gives rise to a lying, cheating ne'er do well who is refusing to give the customary access to security briefings etc to the new incumbent and can really throw a spanner in the works. Most companies in the States will have any high powered employees escorted out of the building on the spot and bar them from any computer access when they are fired to prevent just such a situation, so why doesn't this happen with the highest job in the country.

I read the other day that your car insurance may be declared invalid if you are driving for reasons other than to get to work/doctors/food shopping and you have an accident ! The Insurance companies always play with loaded dice.

Doesn't surprise me - but thanks for the tip, I'll make sure I'm 'going to the shops' on any such unfortunate occasion!

Probably because, like Covid, nobody had ever anticipated it?

Earlier in the history of the Republic, inaugurations were in the first week of March. And the Congress elected in November, unless called into special session, nowadays being sworn in in January, did not ordinarily meet until the first week in December of the following year. (Those elected in 1836 convening for the first time in December of 1837, e.g.) This was the case until the 1930's.

The theory was that the legislature should sit rarely, and not for very long, lest they pass laws. Which are bad, and encroach upon our freedoms.
This belief is widespread, and many state legislatures have an abbreviated session in their second years.

Isn't more to do with the vote counting is yet finalised and the states haven't yet declared the final results. The electoral college then meets on 8th December when they cast their votes for in accordance of the wishes of the voters from their states.

It's still effing long winded.

Yes, it is quite long winded but you have to take many things in to consideration... Such as the sheer size of the US, remember that the winter weather would have made getting votes in difficult in some states and would take a few weeks, add the fact that each state likes to " do" an election their way so democracy takes time.

Although Russia is much bigger and has similar weather based problems with far flung isolated communities they have learned that the pre printed ballot gives quicker and more accurate results. I'm sure Trump will use this method in 2024.

Canada's bigger and has even worse weather but still manages to complete its count in a few days. I really don't know how the US is so inefficient at counting.

Youtube and facebook is so yesterday you Liberal Communist ****wits. Parler and Rumble is the way to go.
Got this from my brother's brother in law. On Facebook, of course, where he has about 3 friends; his wife and two work mates. I'm a lurker and refuse to ever meet him. I've asterisked some of his user name. I have a feeling he can't navigate Parler and has had to come back to Facebook.

Attention: To All My Friends
If you have not noticed I have "NOT" been on this Phony Fact Check platform for the liberal socialist machine.
I have spent the past few days learning how to use Parler and checking out their app. As with anything I hate change, trying to learn how to navigate through the use of Rumble which is also the alternative to YouTube and by the way Rumble is way better and also does not partake in the Silicon Valley liberal Bull Shit! Anyway I am going to shut down my Facebook account and join with the MASS EXODUS OF PEOPLE tired of being silenced and their FREEDOM OF SPEACH BEING SPIT ON!
I am a Red, White and Blue blooded American Patriot!
I support my Bill Of Rights, The American Constitution and ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT and will always have my Brothers & Sisters six!
You can find me on Parler by my user name
@1***warriorfor2nd
May God Bless America and end the Liberal Corruption and with any intervention from God above these thieves will someday sooner rather than later find themselves behind bars where they belong!

Regardless of the reasons it means this time that you effectively have a country with no real leadership for 2 months as Trump continues to sulk and play golf. With the deaths from the pandemic approaching 250,000 in the USA it couldn't have happened at a worse time. Biden is ready to treat this as his number 1 priority but is powerless to do anything until January 20th and in the meantime Trump will do absolutely nothing to improve the situation.

I think you post ended too early. Somehow the words 'despite taking as much credit as possible' didn't appear.

Not a bad idea - perhaps the health insurance companies will latch on to this as a way of saving their money! They could be doing their country a service too - a well directed cull of parts of the gene pool!
:)
This.

It’s pathetic. Childish. He literally has no shame.

Even if you did want to go down this ludicrous route of claiming the election is fixed against you, could you not still have the self-respect and dignity to just write a simple, clear message stating so?

Instead of this rambling, illiterate, spoilt-child gibberish that no normal adult would type even if they were drunk beyond belief.

You’re supposed to be a President ffs, not a stroppy 8 year old. Just fvck off, seriously, you’re a disgrace.
