My opinion is based on what I've seen not on what some stat that means f*** all in the real world. XG is the most pointless stat ever. Can't believe so many people swallow it.This just isn't true at all. Looking at the stats, they're very similar indeed in their shot stopping % and Steele is somewhat ahead on the PSxG-GA (effectively 'goals prevented') metric.

Not saying Steele is a bad keeper, far from it. Bob is better IMO. Steele suits our play better which is why he is playing but it isn't how England play.
Plus if it was a choice between Ramsdale, Pope, Pickford or Steele there aren't going to many people who don't have blue and white tinted spectacles on who are going to pick Steele.

If England were ever to look at him then this summer would be the time. Two games against Malta and North Macedonia means that even if for some bizarre reason he (as the third choice keeper) ended up playing there wouldn't be too much added pressure beyond playing for your country.
Bearing in mind it's common knowledge that Southgate prizes the 'right' character/personality for his England squads it wouldn't surprise me if he took a shining to Steele. We know that he's a good character, he's been praised numerous times for it over his time with us and he wouldn't/doesn't rock the boat if he's not playing.
It's the reason Mings and Coady got so many call ups despite not being anywhere near consistently good enough and very rarely actually playing.

I'm sure clubs look at all stats but I doubt they pay a lot of attention to XG.
We had a higher XG than Everton and lost 1-5.
Actual goals are what win football matches not a subjective opinion of whether the person should have scored or not.
I don’t see it
Pickford / Ramsdale / Pope appear (rightly or wrongly) to be the main three, then there’s Henderson leading the pack. It’d be surprising.
Although claiming Brighton play a specific way then picking all of Steele, Dunk, Webster and Colwill would be huge lols.

A data driven club like our own will absolutely look at xG.
I'm more than sure it'll be one of the drivers behind Tony Blooms Starlizard. When you look at it compared to league positions there tends to only be a few outliers, hence why it's becoming mainstream. Wenger was using xG in the naughties already.

Did he actually say that? If so that's incredible and shows what a sh!t coach Southgate really is.
There is pretty much no point in playing Steele ahead of Pickford or Pope, unless Southgate is going to completely change the way England plays. Steele's number one attribute is that he is an incredible passer of the ball. That skill would be wasted, as England simply don't/can't play that way. And, as long as Pickford and Pope are around, England aren't going to start playing out from the back. And it would be ludicrous to have two very different styles of play, depending on who is. in goal!

Not quite. I don't have the time to try and find the quote now, but it was in relation to Solly March and he passed comment along the lines of how we play a different style of football to anyone else. I guess the implication is that just because someone was excelling for us, they may not perform as well in a different system.

1 Steele has been a long term back up keeper. It is fashionable to consider this as a special role. Unlike outfield players, you MAY not get an opportunity and if it comes you must be prepared. Southgate could use him as a specialist sub.
2 Steele has a good record for saving penalties.
3 Steele has excellent footballing skills.
Here are some valid reasons not to select Steele
1 He has little experience of playing at the top level in the past few seasons, due to prolonged periods on the bench.
2 He is a confidence player and right now his confidence is sky high, playing for a manager who demonstrably believes in him.
3 Better shot stoppers are aguably available.
As an aside I don't really know where De Zerbi is going with this one. I am enjoying the ride, but the mad genious is also something of a perfectionist.
What happens when Steele is off form, or injured?
Do we need to sign a new keeper in the summer?
Is there another keeper at the club who can play this way to the RDZ standard?
How do you coach "nerves of Steel(e)"?
