It shouldn't be a surprise. It seems like he's central to a lot of the push to drive an "elite mindset" since Lallana left. If it's as a coach or on a reduced wage and the leadership group thinks there's value in retaining him then who am I to argue? In talks to extend his contract, though it’s not clear whether it would be as a player, a coach, or both, per the Athletic
I do hope he is not in playing squad. Should never play at FB and we have loads of MFs.It's a shame that it looks like he won't move above 2nd in all time Premier League appearances. Still 16 short of Gareth Barry.
If he'd not been injured and was available for selection for most of the season, there was a good chance he might have, at least, come very close.
Yes, but would also have to be on substantially reduced/lower wages to take account of the hybrid coach/low playing time role.I said this before, but IF FIT to play, I would have no issue in him being part of the squad next season. His experience on the pitch (fingers crossed!) would be invaluable to the young pups.

Surely not on a playing contract. He's been fit for about half a dozen competitive games since January 2024.
The club isn't stupid. If – and I appreciate it's a big IF – he's fit enough to play or contribute (clearly he hasn't been this season) and Fab and co think he can bring something to the squad, then he absolutely should get some form of playing contract. If he's not – or they don't think he's worth it – then he won't get offered a new deal.No playing contract please. His salary is exhorbitant by all reports and I'd rather we used the money on players who can play.
I've no problem giving him a coaching contract on normal coaches salary if the club think he's the right bloke
Maybe a hybrid contract, mainly as a coach but keep his registration and pay him extra for appearances. The club isn't stupid. It wasn't that long ago that players and – I think – FH – were mentioning him as helping them even when he wasn't playing, so he's clearly still providing some sort of positivity.

Should that not be a bare minimum requirement if you're on a professional football contract? Especially if you're on a very good one and likely hope to get another role in the organisation in due courseIt wasn't that long ago that players and – I think – FH – were mentioning him as helping them even when he wasn't playing, so he's clearly still providing some sort of positivity.
That Trent fella is available, apparently...Is there another knackered old Liverpool player we might sign and release Milner like we did Lallana this season?
I’m sure the snood and glove loving Albion players will be keen to see the back of Milner![]()
