Really enjoyed it - I don't overanalyse Bond fils and this contained the usual silliness (dressed up seriously, but it was as preposterous as ever) and a heart, too.
Craig's Bond was a reboot. I would expect to see the next Bond as another reboot - but probably less outwardly serious - entertainment is the key part of the film series, always, anyway.

But Ian Flemings Bond isn't a real person he is a killer and his duty is to put queen and country first over anything else. He's a successful secret agent precisely because he can keep his emotions in check. He can be tortured within an inch of his life and not give in, he can kill without a thought and move on. Thats the character! I don't want to see him give up and die, I want to see him save the world and get out of another sticky situation in one piece!
I didn't. We went there for my mate's birthday - and it was full so we couldn't get in, so went to see Close Encounters... instead.
Still never actually seen Star Wars!

Thought it was good but why would Bond just let himself got blown up at the end!!? Even if he couldn't be near his loved ones you would still be able to watch them grow and support them, why on earth would his character just give up? Makes zero sense.

Because the nano particles spread like a virus. He would literally have to avoid touching anyone, ever, as eventually it would pass through each person to its target. He could never risk it killing his love and daughter

Different side to his character…
Did he tell his daughter he loved her ? Nope.
Did we see him give her a cuddle ? Nope.
Different side to his character? Nope. Kids in care homes get shown more affection than he showed (I should know)
He could have been in their lives, but no direct contact, Christ it’s bond they could have come up with a solution, but no Bond is selfish and would rather die than be in their lives.
So in short, the calls for modernisation in Bond movies have resulted in his death…..
And in such a cheesy lame way.
As for the ending done with real thought, come on…
It was weak, a little struggle in a pond, and he then gives up, tear jerk music for the vulnerable and boom…
Hardly imaginative at all…
Another bad point for me was making the female 007 give up her number for him half way through, why ?
Because he’s Bond ? Because he’s a man ?
That told me there was no real effort to make this ground breaking….

I thought the same. Given the baddies’ habits of creeping out of the past I think Bond would have stayed alive to keep an eye on them from afar.
Would he have been upset enough to essentially kill himself like that? Up to that point his family connection had consisted of peeling an apple.
Having said that, I’m glad they killed off this version of Bond. I loved Craig as the character and thought the did some great films but the “tortured soul being chased by his past” was getting a bit dull.
Bring on a decent reboot. Perhaps a one off set in the ‘60’s. A period film dealing with proper old school espionage in the Cold War. With a really cold, lethal Bond.

Finally went to the DoYs to see it. Not read all the thread here but my goods and bads:
a poor soundtrack and with the nods to WHATTITW showed how much John Barry is missed; loved the motorbike and car chases throughout, particularly into the misty forest; I need to see it again with subtitles as I missed quite a lot of the early dialogue (omg that scientist's accent); I liked the humour in this one, shame no Hugh Dennis death throes scene though; liked the very Bond-like use of an island with a disused missile base and an oilrig; none of the villains had much screen time, Freddie Mercury lite was dull and the bad spy and Blofeld hardly featured, leaving a bit of a character void imo; Léa Seydoux and Ana de Armas are very, very sexy; Lashana Lynch was rather bland but tbf wasn't given much to get her teeth into; Norway, Jamaica and Italy were perfect choices but London too grey and bland; finally, much too much emphasis and time spent on oh-it's-the-end-of-the-Daniel-Craig-era big emotional stretch out, not needed no other Bond film has had this and it jarred a bit (edit- I mean he's bound to survive surely? I really switched off during the overlong ending so was he shown actually being blown up?). Overall a good 7 but Casino Royale remains his best and perhaps best of the series so far.

Just saw it. Bland, predictable plot, no twist, the actions scenes were dull, mostly unrealstic gun battles.
Spectre wasn't brilliant but it did at least have the explosive opening scene, this film's opening scene was lame

This review absolutely hits the nail on the head! Ive been watching bond movies since I was a small kid, for me Bond is associated with memories of my childhood, there's a fantastic feel good feeling that you get after watching the movies. The whole attraction of bond is about escapism not realism, he's meant to be an all action figure and represents good over evil. You go in to watch James Bond films expecting to get that adrenaline rush followed by the feel good feeling at the end as he triumphs against adversity.
And then with this one he just gave up and died and I left the cinema feeling like shit. To be honest I still feel annoyed about it today, its like someone has taken a cherished memory of my childhood screwed it up stamped on it and thrown it in the bin!
If I had wanted to get emotional and watch a film about relationships I would have saved my money and downloaded Titanic!

Given that Bond and Noni arrived on the island in that super-duper state-of-the-art sub-aquatic stealth-plane which they conveniently parked in a secret little cave - why didn't Bond just escape in that ?

Unlike the Guardian article, I wasn’t sad with the loss of Bond per se but more the end of Daniel Craig’s excellent 15 year stint. There’s clearly commonality but I don’t really see all the Bonds as a bonding continuum.
