...Episode IV - A New Hope on DVD.

I'd not seen the film in years, but I have to say, it has just absolutely blown my PANTS off. The digitally remastered picture is a joy to behold - the colours just burst out of the screen and the crisp sharpness of the picture is beyond reality, it is simply perfection. But thats just for starters. The Surround Sound is so thrilling it is bordering on obscene. From the opening shot when that world-famous music bursts from the speakers, you know you're in for a treat. The sound mix and distribution is masterful after those opening credits, as the small rebel ship is pursued by that MASSIVE imperial destroyer - it literally sounds as though it is flying right over your shoulder, and the rumbling base from the sub-woofer jangles the teeth in your head. One of the most pivotel, memorable scenes in 20th Century cinema has somehow been surpassed in its transition. If you're looking for a demo to show off your sound system, then ladies and gentlemen, look no further, this is the ONE.

I have just sat there for two hours drooling withy a moronic grin on my face, as a piece of my childhood was brought back bigger and better than I ever remembered it. Tie fighters screeching round the room, buzzing behind my head, fantastic. What a film, what a story. Still got Empire and ROTJ to watch yet, and I can't wait. If it wasn't so late I'd sit there and watch all three right now, but I can't really crank up the sound at this hour.

If you havn't already got this box set, buy it. NOW. You just don't know how much you NEED it till you experience it.

I need a lie down.

all three are amazing, and then you've got the 4hour bonus DVD which I've still yet to view.

Wait for the Hoth Battle Easy, thats amazing sound aswell...they really have done these 3 films up a treat and I for one am already craming at the pantys in anticipation of Episode III. I dont care what people think, I thought Ep I & II were class but the best one is still yet to come.....oh mummy

I am still frothing at the gash Crabbers, and it finished nearly an hour ago. I could quite happily have sat through the whole thing again straight afterwards.

Ep I and II are superb films in their own right, but were always on a hiding to nothing against the original trilogy because the characters in Ep IV, V and VI are stronger and more memorable, and even superior effects can never compensate for that. But I still love em all, and can't help but get a semi lob-on for next summer when Ep III hits the screens.

Marvellous scenes.

damn that site is class, has loads of info, check this out:

The sound of a TIE fighter is created by combining the squeal of a young elephant with the sound of a car driving by on a rain-slicked highway.

cooooooooooooooool :D

Kenyan language, Hyah, became the language of Nien Nunb. The crew chose not to modify it in any way and when ROTJ premiered in Kenya the locals claimed that one of Nien Nunbs lines translates as "One thousand herds of elephants are standing on my foot".

You WON'T be disappointed Dan.

I can see why some people don't like Ep I and II as they don't quite bowl along with the same heroic camaraderie as the older ones. But I still think they are pretty spectacular in their own way and make for great viewing. The pod race in Ep I remains one of my favourite film sequences of all time - I was blown away in the cinema by that, and its so impressive on DVD with the surround. The battles with Darth Maul are beautifully choreographed as well.

Ep II is weak in some areas - the "romance" between Amidala and Anakin is toe-curlingly unconvincing and just gets in the way. There is a distinct lack of a charismatic villain as well - they should have carried Darth Maul over from Ep I methinks, instead of killing him off. Also George L seems to have seen Gladiator and thought "I'll have some of that" with a battle arena that never comes close to Ridley Scotts masterpiece. But its great for the scale of the huge battles, and it sets up the final chapter nicely.

Total gash ? Harsh. But I admit I'm a sucker for visual effects and eye candy, and they all deliver on that front.
