Which is of course true but then 'they' have won and this becomes censorship, silent state censorship.
Not really - it gets shut down when someone is shouting their bigotry for all to see, expressing hate for the 'other side' (whichever that is). Free speech isn't shut down; bigots and peddlers of hate lose a platform - that ain't censorship.

Of course it can be discussed - but unfortunately there will be people with one sided views which eventually result in insults and vitriol - and threads (if not whole sites) getting closed down. The fact is that both sides are driven by malice and wickedness. And yes, the mindless slaughter than goes on is wicked and unpardonable, whether it's dropping bombs on civilians or shooting up hundreds of kids at a festival because they belong to a race you want to eradicate.

Sadly, another vote here for the mods to close this thread.
Agreed.
Too many people with entrenched views despite not having a proper understanding of what is an incredibly complex, historical conflict.

As someone with no vested interest on either side, I’d say killing innocent people is the problem, whoever is doing it or whatever justification they claim.
Just be be absolute clear - because I posted on ‘that‘ thread more than anyone else and was one of the first to label what was happening ‘genocide’ getting a load of stick for doing so - I personally have no ‘vested’ interests either despite a lot of presumptions and mud being thrown at me because of being Jewish.

The historical conflict between Israel and Palestinians is both tragic and extremely complex which has very sadly culminated in what is clearly an unfolding genocide.

There is never justification for inhumanity and the mass slaughter of innocent people whoever they are but it is impossible to have that impartial discussion on a football forum because people tend to want polarised arguments which resorts to mud-slinging and oversimplification - at worst, it becomes a Petri dish for some individuals to express antisemitic and Islamophobic beliefs. That’s when hosting a site that platforms such an emotive debate becomes a legal jeopardy and personal liability for the site owner.

I completely understand the frustration on this, it's one I share and I'm not happy in making the discussion off-limits on NSC.

I share the despair in the horrific scenes of death and destruction playing out in Gaza on a daily basis. I was equally appalled at the terror attacks carried out by Hamas and the atrocities that were undertaken on October 7th.

For those who claim I am being weak, denying free speech or even complicit in supporting a cover-up of Israel's actions I say this: when it is your name above the virtual door, and words posted by strangers on this site could impact you and your family's wellbeing, I suspect you would also err on the side of caution, even if doing so left a very bad taste in your mouth.

NSC was reported to the police as a result of the long-running thread on this subject. The original tweet has been deleted, but you can still see Sussex Police's response:

Just out of interest, has any online board actually been shut down or even taken to court/ prosecuted over the matter we are all trying to avoid mentioning?
There have been attempts by some club owners to stifle debate on message boards, usually on the topic of the club owner.

My Polish Jewish family were completely wiped out during the Holocaust and I feel we're watching a live feed of a genocide. It has been asserted that is the case by all the world bodies we would usually listen to. If it was the thirties again would we not want to do something to stop the senseless destruction of innocent human beings, so why not now. The Israeli lobby works like Jimmy Saville using litigation to shut down any threats to it's activities.

Ditto with the exception of my Grandfather and I (as well as millions of others!) agree but are powerless .

Unfortunately, as I maintained above, the Israel lobby has friends in high places, not least the US and UK who have long relied on Israel for a power of Western influence in the ME and are 2 of the 5 permanent voices in the UN Security Council that have the power to veto any Resolutions (Russia, China and France the others). The ICJ is a toothless tiger and the UN Peacekeeping forces can only go into a Country at the invitation of that Country. 🤷‍♂️

I wasn’t referring to you. Never read the previous thread. It was just a general point.

Yeah it's funny that - everything seems to be getting cancelled. But not a peep from the Free Speech warriors though. Odd.

And I wouldn't want NSC to be shut down at all. So I took care not to name names. (y)
Grow up.

The thread on NSC was closed for a reason.

The abuse and insults that ran through ‘that’ thread at posters with different POVs and the stereotyping about different cultures and religion were shocking on both sides and Mods had all but given up trying to moderate it - football forums (or any social media platform for that matter) don’t lend themselves easily to nuanced and complex debates, especially when it comes to clashes between historic, cultural and religious differences . Those that tried to explain it in depth were castigated for writing posts that were too long by those wanting soundbite tiktok type exchanges. Those that spoke out in defence of innocent victims on both sides were pilloried for ‘being on the fence’; or worse supporting terrorism; those that failed to understand geo-political contexts, were blinded by their passion at witnessing human tragedy and polarised their hatred instead towards whole populations of people instead of against the people that control them.

What is going on is generally well reported if people want to still follow it but if there is general ’quiet’ in the MSM, it is because for a long time, there has been a ban of foreign journalists in the war zone and increasing numbers of homegrown journalists are dying. There is also a limit to what international peace keeping or law institutions can do when there are so many vested interests in outcome amongst allied powers or countries at war don’t even recognise those intitutions.
Perfectly described.

The tone and attitude of the thread starter suggests they either haven't been keeping up, or they have only been reading what suits them. Fancy that! Patronizing twaddle.

Again, accurately described.

So what do those who are howling at the moon imagine 'we' can do?
Unfortunately the Israel haters shot their bolt years ago.
I have mentioned many times why I left my union
(it passed a motion to boycott Israel and anyone who has anything to do with Israel,
a motion proposed by a Palestinian lecturer in Palestinian Studies,
several years before Hamas decided to go mad and make war on Israel).

The UK cannot start a one-nation war against Israel.
And a one-nation economic boycott would have no effect.
What about banning all flights to Israel?
What about arresting all the jews, and......

I would like to see some suggestions that don't involve targeting Jews.
And some suggestions that have a chance of being impactful,
rather than making some people feel self-righteous for 'taking a stand'.

Before this thread is deleted, can anyone tell me what I can do to help to stop this horror? I feel helpless, and I don't really consume much so it's hard to 'vote with my wallet
Go to a Palestine march in London on a Saturday, i think they are weekly 🤷
