Italy - A nation falls into the hands of NSC-style pollsters

Thats one way of looking at it.

Another way is to see it as a aprotest party. None of the mainstream parties can be trusted any longer and no one has had the courage to form a new party to challenge them so Beppe Grillo forms a party to highlight the fact that people will vote for these 'whatever's than vote for the mainstream. Perhaps soemone will finally get the hint...

Wish this would happen in certain other countries where none of the options offer a viable future for the country.
It's interesting that Berlusconi seems to be proposing an alliance of the right and centre-left parties as a way of ensuring stable government.

That looks to me like the old crook trying to draw all the "professional" politicians together, to see off the threat from Grillo's moVement.

The 'old crook.'

That reads, to me, as 'Machiavelli.'

So ... Beppe Grillo's Five Star Movement wins a quarter of the seats in parliament, making it impossible to put together a government.

Who are these people? None of them have any political experience. And most of the candidates whose names were put forward for election were chosen by small-scale internet polling. It's not a great deal different from the classic NSC rigging of other people's polls - remember Vicky Peck, the fat girl that we thrust to the front of the Miss Scunny Bunny competition?

The people have spoken. Beppe Grillo, the comedian behind all this, didn't even bother to put his own name forward for election. The balance of power now lies in the hands of a bunch of people whose political message can best be summed up in one word ...

... Whatever.

Have you only just noticed what a comedy Italian politics is ? Berlusconi was an absolute joke for starters, promoting only attractive females for parliamentary posts while chasing young girls half his age. Before that we had the Italian porn star who actually got elected MP.... throw in the huge range of parties from communists to fascists and you have a recipe for disaster, or at least, a hung Italian parliament.

"Half his age"? In 2010, he was 74. Karima El Mahroug was 17. The trial continues, as they say.

Incidentally, Berlusconi's reforms of the electoral system (devised for his own corrupt purposes) guarantee that the Chamber of Deputies will have a clear majority from one political bloc. Unfortunately for him, though, this election has thrown up the Centre-Left bloc as the majority party. They don't control the Senate, though - and control of both houses is necessary to run the country.

Therein lies the problem, normally old men chase girls half their age but not with him, it explains why the Italian economy did not add up for him either !

The moVement started in Italy in 2007 - with no intention of winning parliamentary seats.

Roz and I stumbled across V-Day in Bologna when we were on holiday there in September 2007. It was massive. "V-Day" stands for Vaffanculo Day, btw. That was the clear message. I can't see Nigel Farage organising a "f*** Off Day" in Tunbridge Wells.

Not that clear, as that's an incorrect translation....Culo is arse in Italian & Vaffanculo translates better as 'f*** yourself up your arse'...far more interesting & personal and why it leads to a red card on the pitch in Italy more often than f*** off does here

The old gang trying to gang up against the new kid on the block. As they said in Dads Army 'They don't like it up em!'

All power to Grillo perhaps some people will now get together and form a proper new party that can put Berlusconi and the others to bed at last.

Swearing doesn't really translate. Otherwise we'd be all be muttering "God the hangman" and imagining that it was having some effect.

As an aside... this is exactly the issue in Turkey. The AKP won power because they broke the mould in politics and actually courted the people instead of thinking about thow they could steal money. Hower, like Blair, Tayyip Erdogan has been in power so long that he is beginning to believe his own 'stories'. Unfortunately the other parties are still behaving the same way they did before Tayyip meaning there is now no viable option. Im sick of hearing people complaining and saying this or that should be done. Turkey needs a Grillo

Italy? The noted hothouse of political stability?

The country where a group of eight pissed-up British lads could go on holiday and within three weeks form a government...?

It's a little known fact that the Taxman was in fact Italian PM for 24 hours in 1990.

Hi, have you seen Robin Williams'film? it's similar to italian situation now.

Peppe Grillo is comedian who has made a lot of politician satire on tv. In the last years he has been very interested in financial, politician and environment matters. He spent a lot of time in public places to speak with the folks about the italian problems and attacked the politicians. Last month he took part to the Monte Paschi di Siena's board as stakeholder.

Last year he decided to create a new movement and he picked up a lot of votes because italian people is bored of Berlusconi and Bersani. They have governed Italy for 20 years and the situation isn't so happy for us.
Surely crisis has helped Grilllo.

I hope to be usefull for you

bye
