Is this poster racist?

A campaign rally was called by the party and that was attacked by it's opponents. The rally was not called to promote the poster. As for the poster being banned, sorry I thought it had been but there had only been calls to ban it.

But to imply the poster caused the riot is like saying a bnp poster cause anti-bnp feeling and activity. Rubbish, people attack extreme right wing parties because they are wankers and hold obnoxious views. Not because of one sodding poster.

Whether the phrase 'black sheep' is in itself inherently racist anyway, is another debate entirely.

don't be ridiculous, hans. how can that phrase possibly be inherently racist? it exists because most SHEEP are white, and so the black one is the abnormality. .

Ah, so anyone DIFFERENT is inherently inferior?

that's not what i said at all.

Yes it is. The phrase 'black sheep' means an 'undesirable element'. You are saying that it stems from one being different [abnormal] from the norm. Ergo different = undesirable.

Right. So you were not aware of the riots, you wrongly claimed the poster had been banned and your only knowledge of this is the Guardian article I posted which reported the riot. Yet this qualifies you to preach about what is going on in Switzerland? OK.
If my initial post is slightly mis-leading so be it. I led it in the same way as the news report that i saw on it, if this was inflammatory then perhaps that is the tack I was aiming for. At the end of the day I have an opinion on this which is why I posted, I never claimed to be an unbiased news agency. Your pedantry is pointless and I can't help thinking you have some other agenda here.

EDIT: Having just seen you last post, I think you are doing a good job of not arguing with me. :)

Abnormal doesn't mean undesirable. I know a girl with abnormally large tits - she is desirable.

Where on earth do you get the idea that my only knowledge of this poster and party is from the guardian article, of which I had no knowledge until you posted it? I heard about this poster weeks ago, probably when the bbc first reported the issue back at the beginning of September. I was disputing your assertion that the riots were over the poster. The riot was not over the poster. The poster has not caused any riots at all, a meeting of a neo-facist party has cause a riot.

:bigwave: :)

Edit because I meant to include a smiley as well.

firstly, nice use of the quote feature.

second, i said that the black sheep was the abnormality, though never undesirable. please don't equate the two.

if the black sheep had bundles of laundered money in a Swiss bank account would it get the same treatment?

and where does the purple cow fit into all this?

Ahem. You said a black sheep was an abnormality, within the context of a discussion of the phrase 'black sheep', meaning undesirable element, thus YES you were equating the two.

Nibble, stay out of this!

I'm not wrong though.

I do not mean to suggest that TiD actually believes that black [sheep] are inferior to white [sheep]. Simply that his argument about why the phrase 'black sheep' should NOT be considered racist, actually supports the fact that it IS.
