That's the only time EVER, that those two will be described as 'passengers'...

And, not sure this will actually happen, but in reserve -

It was explained to me by someone who had a brush with the professional game - but whose father was a League player/manager how fullback was the most important position for footballing sides.

I was (and likely would still be) of the persuasion that your best player goes up front - but it did all make sense.

Oi, so can no one genuinely offer up a better set of full backs for any of next season's League One teams?

Hugely important position, they probably see most of the ball and attacks generally start from them. That's why it's such a blessing that England now have two full backs that can offer loads in the final third.

I don't think it can be underestimated that Brazil won a World Cup with the best attacking full backs in the World at the time (Roberto Carlos and Cafu) - and France also did the same with two of the best (Thuram and Lizarazu)

IF Johnson has a good tournament (and he has it in him to do that) and Cole plays at the level expected of him, we have a fighting chance.

Personally I think the most important player is the goalkeeper, followed by the strikers, centerbacks and midfield, wingers then fullbacks. I'd rather have a weak full back than weak keepers or strikers.

The difference Painter and Calderon made to the team last year was phenominal. So to sign them permanently is absolutely brill.

How long till someone starts a thread saying they are worried over the lack of signings this summer though?

Some of the thinking was that possession always starts with them. No hoof-ball from the keeper. And they provide the width that opens up the pitch.

I always thought that a game was won and lost in midfield.

But I am amazed at the clear link between good footballing fullbacks and the success

Definitely. Especially with Calderon - when you look at the videos he put up on YouTube (here), you realise just how much we used him to start/build our attacks. He's such a good outlet. And Painter does a very good job of it on the other wing as well. At the back end of last season we certainly emphasized the importance of good full backs, more so than with any other team I've seen.

Charlton one's the best.

We pissed all over them that night. And Calde was phenomenal.
