Is The Falmer Project Dying On Its Arse? (With Apologies To Those Sensitive Souls With Young Children And NSC As Their Homepage)

On 28th October 2005, at 8am, the club received a 33-page letter from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minster confirming that the club could proceed with its plans for the 23,000 all-seater stadium at Village Way North, Falmer.

The following day, at the home match against Ipswich Town, the club served us with champagne to toast ‘THE GREATEST-EVER HOME WIN!’

Since then, thanks to the ever-present NIMBYs, there’s been nada, zilch, nichts, f*** all in the way of progress.

The NIMBYs have been allowed to dictate the game, set the agenda, set the timetable, and the bad news is there IS no timetable. It gets dragged out just as long as they can drag it out.

And all the time the talent drains away, the performances on the pitch get a bit more gutless, the pre-season friendlies get less ambitious and more morally-ambiguous, the season ticket numbers dip, the depression deepens.

Whether you choose to go to Withdean or whether you don't, IF YOU ONLY DO ONE THING FOR THE ALBION THIS SEASON, MARCH ON THE LIB-DEM CONFERENCE THIS SEPTEMBER.

AND PLEASE JOIN THE SEAGULLS PARTY.

Kill STONE DEAD the political ambitions of the serving members of Lewes District Council by embarrassing them mightily in front of their national leaders on national TV.

Seize the initative back from these bastards.

Don’t get mad, get even.

To be honest I have virtually lost the will to live with this as the agenda appears now to be dictated through the legal system so not sure what we can do to help.

However if there is something we can do someone shout !

Wise words.

In short answer to your question - NO.

Good post with somewhat misleading headline.

Have you ever thought of a career working for the Argus?

We seem to have lost the initiative on Falmer.

I would have sent an earthmover in, the day after we got planning permission.

Symbolically putting the tanks on their lawn, if you like.

Maybe we could symbolically put the giant flag there as a photo-opportunity over the Summer?

I don't agree.

Every time we expose the lies and deceit from LDC, every time we post a picture of the true nature of the *ahem* AONB, every time a Falmer Parish Councillor speaks, every time we sing 'We Want Falmer', every time we mach on the Party Conferences, we gain more and more of the initiative.

It's all hot air and sabre-rattling coming from the NIMBYs. There is no substance in what Lewes DC is claiming (source: HM Goverment's Treasury Solicitor) aside from the 'built-up area' claim. Our despair is not in the hollow rhetoric and, in some cases, downright lies coming from Lewes District Council, but more the bloody frustrating delays.

At the end of the day, we know we're in the right, and the stadium WILL be built at Falmer. Eventually.

Which I believe is the point of this thread, define eventually as we are sick of the waiting.

Sorry, TLO, but it is complacent to assume that the stadium will be built one day. One look at the homepage of the club's official site tells the true story; all the headlines are about Bognor, Aldershot, Worthing, Crawley, the under-15 girls team. The cumulative effect is that this is a club quite happily bedding down for life in the lower leagues. we're only two relegations from the Conference and tho the prize of Falmer is totally worth winnig, it needs an urgent injection of funds to stop the downward spiral IMHO. Else the need for Falmer will no longer be there.

The headlines are about Bognor, Aldershot etc (rather than the absence of headlines re: Falmer) are because it is on hold (at least publicly) for at least another two months, which is the earliest the case will go to the High Court. Hopefully, we will be one of the first cases to be heard.

Beachy, the 'eventually' will depend on LDC's behaviour - and their finances.

Looks like a sticky wicket to me.

Do you blame the groundsman, bowlers or batsmen. Blame don't help.

Solutions is the answer.

Bit like the England World Cup fiasco. Do you blame Sven the referees/opposition or the players?

The latter is easy. I blame the players!

At the end of the day, it looks to me as though it is in the hands of legal people, therefore if it happens then great, if not, then we soldier on.

I am past worrying about or caring for that matter about this.

Que sera sera
