That's who this quote from Gus reminded me of.

“That was Fran at his best,” said Poyet. “He’s not quickest or the slowest, technically he is not the best or the worst. He is not going to hold the ball up too much - you can go through every aspect of football but when the ball drops in the box he is there.

“He will score goals. How? It doesn’t matter. What time? It doesn’t matter – but it was a special moment for him.”

Niche Post, Fred Binney was before my time. I personally feel Sandaza needs 3/4 weeks to get used to this league and improve sharpness/fitness, but i saw enough postional awareness from him to think he maybe a solid front man

If Sandaza is the new Fred Binney, I can't wait for the new Peter Ward.

Quite agree.
Was on the train to Hereford when I heard Fred was being replaced by a young man from the reserves. Very surprised at first but 50 seconds into the game, Fred could have jumped off the end of the pier for all I cared.
Gus has been honest enough about Fran's attributes ( or lack of them ! ) and he looks a messy rag-bag type of player but if he poaches goals like yesterday, then I don't give a shit.

The thing I liked about him was the way in which the Oldham defenders suddenly looked really nervy about his physical presence. It didn't look (to my anyway) that persisting with the Barnes/Murray partnership was gonna force the winner yesterday & - with the beauty of hindsight - so it proved to be. I thought Gus got his substitutions spot-on yet again yesterday. Dicker had an absolute mare in the first 45, but he was evidently given the vote of confidence at half time & looked like a different player in the 2nd half. Kish's arrival gave us the midfield presence & nous that we lacked up to that point; & Sandaza came on & did the do.

Marvelous Schmarvelous.

Fred Binney was an ace poacher and if Sandaza is anything like him then he IS what we need in the box
good call Uncle C

Fred was one of my first, real Brighton heroes..always felt we would score if it played.

i liked the way that poyet, in his interview, basically said that sandaza is f***ing rubbish at everything, BUT he'll be in the right place at the right time

sometimes you need that kind of player

Lineker made a career out of it.

Interesting comments from Gus, not a polished player, but will get it in the net. How to use that style in a team that is playing polished football?

Before Wardy came along, Fred was the North Stand hero.

Super Fred, Super Fred.....

If there was a loose ball in the area, especially the 6 yard box, he would be on it & the ball would be in the net.
