Kids for a quid would be less effective so gates would be down, League 1 is a competitive League, we wouldn' get back out without spending money, which we're lead to believe we don't have. Going down would be a disaster, which is why MM is trying to keep us up. If going down doesn't matter shall we just not play any more games this season save on appearance fees and (god forebid) goal bonuses or clean sheet bonuses.

I'm not saying it doesn't matter, or that we should not bother to try to stay up. of course it would be better if we stayed up. However, if we were up the top of League one and actually winning some games, the kids for a quid etc would be just as effective. In fact I seem to remember the club doing this against Cardiff at the Goldstone in the 3rd division and getting eight thousand or so.

What I think is the worst possible scenario, is if we stay in the Chamionship for the next two or three years, struggling all the time, and then get relegated the season before the first season at Falmer. We wouldn't sell nearly as many season tickets as we would if we'd spent a couple of seasons in League 1, and then got promoted going into the frst season at Falmer.

It's doesn't matter anyway because we staying up this year :clap2:

Yes, because we cannot guarantee bouncing back up again. We need to stay in this division, as hard as it may be, to consolidate. A drop will make it harder for us. Look at clubs like Nottingham Forest who have dropped from former glories - and stayed dropped.

Anyway, we will be staying up. New signings in the window, bit more concentration, enough points to stay here.

as someone posted earlier about our gate reciepts going down. i dont think they would as long as we were winning most games and looking for promotion again. most teams pushing for promotion dont really have to do the kids for quid scheme anyway because they usually fill their ground up a little more whilst winning.

League one is a mare to get out of as there are some very good teams in it.

The club would get less money from sky and less prize money.

Withdean is empty at the moment, can you imagine yeovil on a wet tuesday in a mid table clash?

Yes, we would not automatically bounce back, we would lose revenue and our crowds would suffer a little (but not too much).

But listen closely to the question. All those things are setbacks, not disasters.

Disasters are losing the Falmer stadium fight.

So a club in finacial trouble lossing more money is not disaster?

Just a disappointment. We might get to see a few wins that way!

League one is at a very shocking standard. Been to quite a few Southend games, and the quality of football has fallen a lot. Southend fans can't understand how they are top as they are playing poor.

Would like to see Carole, Frutos, Robinson and CKR in league 1.

No, it's a setback. We can cope with it, we've come this far...

Hm. Would they still be with us in League 1 though? The reason clubs like Sarfend are shite is because they can't keep players when they drop divisions.

Somewhat confused by that. They have just been promoted, and are top of league one with only signing a couple of players, with a squad of 18 odd players. They haven't sold anyone, and are making signings. JCR is begging to join them (140,000k) but Southend are unsure. They just signed Sodje for a fee too.

Sold Leon Cort a couple of years ago but were then promoted the following season.

League 1 is not much fun but we've been relegated and we've promoted - shit happens.

It would not be a disaster. In fact, looking on the bright side, a year in Div 1 may be a good thing like CKR and Robinson. It really worries me what playing in a struggling team and then having to hear the manager bemoan the lack of forwards is doing to their confidence.

In case anyone gets the wrong idea - obviously noone wants to go down but all I'm saying is that it wouldn't be the end of the world.

It wouldn't be a DISASTER, it would be a bit of a bummer (to be polite) but we'd keep it together.

After all Diego and Aussie are gonna bankroll us by the 8th of Jan.

What??

We've passed the deadline??

Oh, it must of been a wind up thread then.

Och, we're doomed!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot believe that [people are even contemplating the thought of getting relegated.

Getting relegated has no bearing whatsoever on Falmer or the possibility of it being rejected eventually or not being able to fund the building of it.

Staying up means that we wil not have to play all these extra games at Withdean like LDV Cup Rounds 1, 2 and 3 if we are lucky. We stand more chance of filling the extra seats we have put in as opposed to having them empty for most games. How many Div 1 sides take 1000 fans away with them.

Travelling expenses would be increased, I think as more teams in Div 1 are overnight stays and not in London and surrounding areas.

The only gain would be on wages if the players contracts are division related.

Where, in any of the above replies, did anyone suggest that we would gain anything from going down? Noone is suggesting that it would be a good thing, just that it would not be a disaster.

Going down is nothing. We have a secured future for the next 100 years as we have Falmer, it may take us 1 to 5 seasons to get back up (hopefully not) but we will have a new stadium and it won't be long until we will be back up and do what Reading did when we got promoted the first time with them.
