It's chicken and the egg though isn't it.

He's being slagged off for not signing a contract (at least that is why I'm slagging him off) and you say he is not signing a contract because he is being slagged off.

I never berate any individual player at a game but I come on here to express my opinions with other fans. My opinion is he is pissing us all around by not signing a contract. I'm not going to silence those views because he might read this site!

As for his playing ability, I think he is being made a scapegoat probably because he is not signing a contract. He thinks he is something special and fans are happy to point out all his mistakes to prove that he isn't.

I think he still needs time to develop as a player. I'd like to see Mayo given a run out. If Knight can be benched for going through a bad patch then so can Harding.

No..... they might not have been internationals but a fair few spring to mind..... Maheta Molango anyone?

As I see it, wehther Dan is great, average or shit as a player, we all agree he has performed poorly this season (don't we?). Now whatever the reason, if a player in a football team is struggling then he should be dropped and someone else given a chance. This is not a f***ing charity, we want to win games so lets put out a team that gives us the best chance possible of doing that. Surely this is not controversial? This is not "getting on Dan's back", he should be judged on performance along with everyone else. If he performs, play him. If he is consistantly our worst player, drop him.
Also, I agree with Lammy, he was our worst player at West Ham.

As pete just said, you havent the faintest idea why he is not signing a new contract, but you came on here slagging him off for not signing it and suggesting that he is pissing us about.

Have you ever thought that he may be on extremely shit wages here...it was suggested he was on £30k a year.he has come up through the ranks, ...we all know there is no money for anything anymore, so if the reason he is unhappy to sign a contract is because he has been offered peanuts, then obviously he is going to wait for the transfer window to open then the Prem Clubs can put their money where their mouths are...wouldn't you?

I think he is. I am sure he is a nice lad and good to his mum but all I can say is his agent must be the best agent in the land. Why all these big clubs looking at him and why the England call ups. Its a complete bloody mystery to me.

Mayo is better imho.

Any other votes for Albions most overrated player ever ?.

How could you post such a stupid thread? We all know he is our best ever payer and worth a king's ramsom! When he is sold in January, anyone paying under £25million will be getting a read bargain.

That should talk-up his transfer fee. :jester:

So you know better about his abilities than an England Manager then do you?

If Harding was no good do you think he would be playing for England U21's? Do you not think that Taylor and the huge backroom staff at the Englaish FA would not spot this?

*sigh*

First of all I've probably seen him play a lot more football that Peter Taylor.

Peter Taylor probably selected him by thinking "I need a left footed full back"

Have we got any in the Prem?

yes

Are they under 21?

no

ok let's look at the Championship etc...

FFS Virgo got picked for Scotland as a defender having played up front all season!!!

At west Ham ..that was all the attacking play that didn't lead to a goal being scored? In fact so much so that Ethrington who has skinned many fullbacks didn't have a look in?

West Ham made LOADS of chances. harewood f***ed most of them up and others were kept out by last ditch defending. About 90% of that game was played in our half! I'm not saying that harding was a total f*** up that day by any stretch of the imagination. The whole team did really well. However, Harding WAS our weakest player that day and I said it as you used that game as an example of a great performance when it wasn't.

Harding is looking to shaft us out of a transfer fee by going on free? Sorry can you explain that one? He is under 21 will get a fee for him? If we can get 250k for Currie, I expect at least 500k

We get compensation if he goes on a free which will be a fraction of his true worth.

Of course I would, but I wouldn't expect the full backing of the fans whilst I did it.

I am a Brighton and Hove Albion fan not a Dan Harding fan.

I want to see what is best for the club not what is best for Dan Hardings bank account. Especially given the clubs current financial situation. I also think that £30k is a pretty damn good wage for a 21 year old.

I would like to see Harding stay at the club as I think he has great potential. He is nowhere near the finished article yet. I would like to see him achieve that here.

Failing that I would like to see him sign a new contract and put on the transfer market if he really wants to go. I would not have a problem with this at all. All players want to achieve to best that they can. To not sign a contract with the club that brought you up through the ranks, taught you what you know and put you in the shop window smacks of lack of respect to me.

You're right, I don;t know ALL the facts but since when did we all need that to post on here?

harold...I have no disagreement with that at all. What really pisses me off is that people are slagging off a young lad, who Yes ok, he is not playing particularily well, but at the end of the day, if he is off form, then its down to the management of the club to drop him.

I think you are right...anyone with an ounce of a brain cell knows he is in the shop window and the club see him as our only bankable asset, therefore if he has a bad game then its one of those things.

My issue is this. If you were Dan Harding and every saturday you had to put up with some of the stuff yelled out at him and no doubt some of the stuff written on here gets back, would you want to stay here?

There's no doubt that the stuff he hears and reads will merely prove his decision to leave it the right one. And that's the point...in his head (and every meeting with his agent no doubt) its a done deal, and he has been playing for a while now as though he is somewhere else. He has a semi-regular taste of the high life with the U21's and an image of what lies beyond with all the paper talk.

He's young, playing in a dump, for peanuts, for a team that faces a real struggle every week, in front of fans who often need to have a target, and now he is the subject of transfer speculation. His head has been turned by these events and that's only natural. The club (fuelling this particular fire) tell us that young Dan won't discuss a contract extension and hence many feel it's a done deal and he's simply biding his time til January.

All fans though will still demand something for now though, teamwise not just young Dan. That 'something' as always is effort over ability and concentration on the massive task at hand.

These are frustrating times and we have a realistic chance of staying in this division this time. If Dan is going to play, he has to be there on merit same as everyone else. Ok an idealistic view and other agenda's force what actually happens obviously. And yes there are other culprits but most (apart from Leon who needs to come up with some goals) seem to be genuinely trying and working hard within their own individual abilities.

Dan though is visibly struggling. I don't for one second believe he makes mistakes on purpose, I'm a tad miffed because anyone else would have been rested by now (especially given his age) and it is clear what is going on. I also feel if Jake was the subject of 6 figure transfer talk he would be out there as well.

I feel sorry for him to be honest, but if McGhee puts him out in front of paying customers week after week playing like this it will get worse before it gets better.

Let's hope he turns in a blinder on Friday though and rides through this rough patch.
