Apparently the longest walk from one place to another you can do, in a fairly straight line:
Yes, they go down a long way but you don’t want the German to Bight.
Odd that we owned most of France in the middle ages, and have not been successfully invaded since 1066, so I question the accuracy of the 1400 ish years longer France has apparently existed as a country compared with us.
If we’re going with “current borders” then technically France should be 1918 with the return of Alsace and Lorraine under the Treaty of VersaillesOdd that we owned most of France in the middle ages, and have not been successfully invaded since 1066, so I question the accuracy of the 1400 ish years longer France has apparently existed as a country compared with us.

A few tweaks for Belgium and Denmark under that too
Confirmation, Hampshire is a shithole.
Not only do we have quite a few bottoms up here in Cumbria - but they can be quite active as well......

I think you will find that map is inaccurate since there are arseholes everywhere ....
They're talking about 'Britain' rather than 'England'. 1801 was the Act of Union with Ireland. (Scotland having been 'unionised' in 1707). To show we were all one nation the red saltire of St Patrick was added to the union flag to give it the design we know today. But you are right about the errors though. One could even argue that 1801 is actually too early as technically both the modern UK and Ireland should have 1922 (at the earliest) as their founding dates as that was when the Irish Free State was created.Odd that we owned most of France in the middle ages, and have not been successfully invaded since 1066, so I question the accuracy of the 1400 ish years longer France has apparently existed as a country compared with us.

This map makes no historical sense and there is no continuity for most of these countries. Nation states really are quite a modern concept. This map was probably created by Dominic Sandbrook - Alexei Sayle reckons that his knowledge is entirely stuff his mum told him.
Tallinn is small, but Athens out there is further away!I live near Tallinn which I think is small. I have visited Athens which I thought was much bigger
I live near Tallinn which I think is pretty small compared to Athens I have visited and felt much bigger
Depends which lens you are viewing it through, my Irish partner wouldn't agree. That was a Top 10 empire.
The Dominic Sandbrook who got a degree in history at Oxford, a Masters in History at St Andrews, a PhD in History at Cambridge, and was a Senior Fellow at Oxford and a Professor at KCL? That one? This map makes no historical sense and there is no continuity for most of these countries. Nation states really are quite a modern concept.
