Eh? I'm pretty sure that the French for finger is 'doigt', and the French for toe is 'orteil'. According to the map in French a toe should be something like 'doigt du pied'. Pretty sure I've never heard it called that, but I'm not fluent and stand to be corrected.

EDIT: Yes, google translate seems to agree with me!

There was another version of the map where France was red and blue stripes so I guess it's regional

Just checked:

interesting view of European population density. Spain is wierd, so concentrated to few towns/cities.

something for you in the maps thread. its pretty dense until you get mid Wales or Scottish Highlands.

Thanks, just saw it as you posted on the other thread.

You'll notice the intervals on the shading are seemingly totally random, going
0-57
57-101
101-182
182-508
508-20924

It's not quite meaningless, but it's not far off. Most of those areas in England that appear quite densely populated on there are basically just miles of empty fields - you're not going to tell me that Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire are notably densely populated.

If you think the Highlands are empty, try renting a flat in Inverness. :lolol:

The Spanish interior is empty. So many abandoned and practically abandoned villages. Lots of city folk own a place in their ancestral village that they go back at weekends/holiday etc. You'd think with the rise of homeworking more people will return to village life but it's not happening yet.

A couple of years ago somebody offered me a little house in a village about 45 mins from here for 10k euros! It needed a bit of work but was livable. I was tempted but lack of cash, lack of car, and lack of spousal enthusiasm scuppered it :lolol:

No wonder the citizens of the former republic of Yugoslavia are so irritable and intolerant of one another

That is a delightful confabulation. Whoever made up those numbers should win a prize :lolol:
